My parents were huge classical music fans, but liked John Denver. My younger brothers loved John Denver. We were all huge Muppets fans, and never missed an episode of "The Muppet Show." When this Christmas special first aired, we were absolutely hooked. My dad bought the album, and it became a tradition to play the album on Christmas morning while opening our gifts and eating breakfast.
When the CD finally came out, I bought copies for every one of my family members, as the album had finally given up the ghost a few years before, and we had not been able to enjoy.
My personal favorite is the haunting "Noel: Christmas Eve, 1913," sung with Denver's beautifully clear voice. However, I have to say my memories of "Christmas is Coming" are pretty funny - I love Miss Piggy, especially when she's being bossy.
There are no second-rate songs on this album. Every one is perfect just the way it is.
I've now introduced it to my own family at long last, and we too will be decorating our tree, and unwrapping presents, to the very tunes that made some of my Christmas memories so special.

I have been a John Denver fan since the mid-seventies and I've also had a soft spot for the muppets. I would agree with an earlier reviewer and say that this is also my favorite Christmas cd, along with John Denver's 'Rocky Mountain Christmas' a close second! Well needless to say I loved this piece of Holiday fare the first time I saw it on tv. I also have been hoping and waiting patiently for it's release someday on dvd! I sincerely hope that it's not being held up due to legal ramifications, as this could bring such joy and brighten many a Holiday season. I'm sorry to see that so many young people and children have not had the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful show! Now that I'm aging (slightly) with two young children of my own, my daughter almost 10 and my son almost 8, I would very much like to share this with them! I don't know how or why this was introduced into my family traditions (back in the early 80s?) but it immediately became a staple. Its the first CD we pull out, listen to for days until we're ready to move onto some variety; and it's a family requirement to trim the tree while dancing to the muppets singing the 12 days of Christmas and the rest of the fun songs. Now I'm grown up, have 4 kids of my own and passed the love, enjoyment and tradition to my children.
It was out-of-print for a time, through the early/mid 90s, so I've been thrilled it was brought back.
A couple years ago, I sent this CD to each of my siblings and friends, all of whom have adopted it as a Christmas fave. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed.
Bless John Denver, who passed-away years ago. He should be proud he left a legacy of Christmas tradition for 3 generations in my family alone!!

I had this c.d. for many years until someone "borrowed" it, and chose to never return it, or the other 15 or so that she took. I am so happy I finally remembered to look for it, and that it was here! I would never need any other Christmas c.d.'s. The holiday is sometimes difficult for me as I spend it home alone as my family doesn't get together since my mom and dad died. I think I went to a John Denver concert after this was on t.v. - my memory isn't the best :) The Muppets somehow sound so reverent, and Miss Piggy is great! I just ordered it, and can barely wait for it to arrive!Free Music Review: A (Complete) Christmas Together

A year ago I reviewed a different edition of this CD which had three songs missing--"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "When the River Meets the Sea", and "Little Saint Nick". It is nice to see that the original complete 13-song version of the album is now available again. Our four children, now ages 14 to 34, all grew up listening to this recording. We own probably 50 Christmas CDs, ranging from classical to jazz to pop. If I could own only one Christmas CD, it would be this one. Exquisitely arranged and recorded, it is a true holiday classic.
