Free Music Notes for John Denver - Definitive All-Time Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Near Perfect Single-Disc Anthology Hit: 5 Stars
There are numerous John Denver collections to choose from dating all the way back to his first 1973 greatest hits package, but this one is nearly perfect. The only real flaw is the omission of his 1981 hit "Some Days Are Diamonds (Some Days Are Stone)." That aside, this disc includes each of his other top 40 hits from "Take Me Home, Country ROads" through "Shanghai Breeze."
The brief 4-track bonus disc is highlighted by a breathtaking acoustic version of "Calypso" that is even better than the hit version. Just to get this song is worth the price of admission. Denver may not have gotten much critical praise during his heyday in the early seventies, but these tracks explain what made him one of the most popular artists of the decade. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Free Music Review: The collection I've been waiting for. Hit: 5 Stars
Like many, for years I had his vinyl era "Greatest Hits" album and loved it, but always missed a number of excellent songs. This includes all the songs I was missing, and everything else too. True there is even more to be heard, but this is as good as a single disc could be, and should be owned by any level of fan. Including the four track bonus disc, this is more than twice as long as his "Greatest Hits" was, and the sound is wonderful as well. To have "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Rocky Mountain High", "Annie's Song", and "Back Home Again" on the same album is so pleasing, and improves many of my mornings. Regardless of whether you're a fan of soft rock, folk, or country, any fan of music should be moved by the songs of John Denver.
Free Music Review: Late-comer to Denver Hit: 5 Stars
I was just a kid when JD was really big in the 70's so I didn't come to really "discover" him until adulthood. Of course, I knew a lot of his songs but didn't really appreciate his greatness as an artist, singer and songwriter. Now being a fan of his, I see that he truly was a one-of-a-kind entertainer- and a great human being.
This CD was a joy to me, as so many of John's gems were brand new to me. Many of his standards that I was familiar with, like 'Leaving On a Jet Plane', seemed so comforting and familiar, like an old friend. I highly recommend this CD to fans and non-fans alike. One listen will convert you to John's 'Rocky Mountain High'.
Free Music Review: How Could You Not Like John Denver? Hit: 5 Stars
Just bought this 2 cd set today. Not a bad selection put here together. The bonus disc here is a extra treat for everybody too. There are many John Denver hit packages out there to choose from. This set puts his most popular and beloved songs on one cd.I'm glad RCA released this as of the time of his 30th anniversary of his first greatest hits album.Listening to these songs makes me feel good, kinda lets me drift off to better thoughts.Which John always intended. His music was and is still "pure folk".The man knew how to write a good song.To pick a favorite song would be hard for me.So if you always wanted to get a John Denver cd,this would be it.Enjoy! Peace!
Free Music Review: TRUELY a song's best friend! Hit: 5 Stars
what else can i say? at 36, and i grew up in a strictly religious household, so i missed him growing up, but i got spots going into public places & whatnot. i remember a vacation while young in the WV woods when one of his most popular songs was on the radio & i memorized it the first time i heard it and sung it to myself time and time again, while walking through the woods or horse back riding- just enjoying nature. he has a way of giving you nature and the beauty of it in a song. God gave us such as one as him so we could stop and remember the beauty of all that is around us all the time.
