Free Music Review: Like Hurricane, Fogerty Performs with Power and his Great Sound

What a thrill it was to hear John Fogerty live with Mellencamp and his voice still has that raw power, energy and his unique voice. After hearing "Walking in a Hurricane" at the concert from this CD, I was impressed enough to buy the CD and I was not disappointed. Hurricane, which is my favorite song on the CD, fits well as a Fogerty classic with great guitar beat that thumps along with his powerful voice and it is virtually one you can tap too or dance too. Some songs have country flair and in fact one has a western sound that would be perfect for the TV series Deadwood. "101 in the Shade" is a slow sleepy tune that is bluesy and soulful and perfect for the heat wave we have experienced. I also like "Rambunctious Boy" that sounds playful as the title and has a catchy fun sound. Solid music on all the songs and they seem to fit together on this Album. The great thing about Fogerty is that his music sounds pure in the sense that he sounds the same on stage as he does on the CD. This CD is a collectable for Fogerty fans and a great CD for those that appreciate his guitar jumping sound with a great drummer.

John Fogerty, Blue Moon SwampFormer Creedence Clearwater Revival leader Fogerty's first album since 1986's broodingly flat Eye of the Zombie, '97's Blue Moon Swamp finds him returning to the roots-rock ways of his old CCR glory days. Deceptively relaxed in the Creedence manner, this collection seeks to evoke the mood and tone of Southern swamp blues, with generally successful results. Highlighted by rockabilly-tinged tunes like "Southern Streamline" and "Hot Rod Heart," the album's clear standout track is "One Hundred and Ten in the Shade," on which Fogerty, ably backed by gospel vocal group legends the Fairfield Four, uncannily reconstructs the sound of Southern field hollers. --Billy Altman
