John Fogerty:The Long Road home.
John Fogerty is a hit factory, more or less. Yes, this is the ultimate hit collection, from his Creedence and solo stuff. There`s magic in his music, and the Long Road Home glittering like musicals pearls in your ears. Track 1 Born on the Bayou, is what we can call the ultimate "swamp rock" extravagant rock and roller. Track 2 Bad Moon Rising, is the ultimate "werewolf" inspired walk along rock&roller. It`s simple, and it hits in straight to your soul. Very effective. Track 3 Centerfield, is `s more polished in a way, but his ear for a good melody is still intact, but I miss a bit of his rawness in his voice. Track 4 Who`ll stop the rain, is the one that gives you freezes down your backbone. His voice is very soulfoul, and there's pain in it. Track 5 Rambunctious boy is an ok well driven rock&roller, that hit`s in the right direction when it comes to plain and simpel quality craftsmanship. Track 6 Fortunate Son is in the genre of songs that hit the mark at once. It has a strong theme. Fogerty`s voice "hammers" the message as a nail right into your soul spot, and hold it there all trough the song. Track 7 Lookin out my back door, is the lightweight quality Fogerty song, that makes you happy and in a "sing along "mood trough the song. .Track 8 Up around the bend changes gear into a a blues rocker with a touch of light heavy metal fuzz on the guitar Track 9 Almost Saturday night is live track. It`s ok, but as a live track, you can hardly hear the audience, and what`s the point of a live track then ? A lack of audience atmosphere is deeply missed on this ok tunes. . Track 10 Down on the corner is a simple song. It`s effective and have much of the same atmosphere as Track 7. Track 11 Bootleg, is the "weird" one. As a live track it works with the right kind of atmosphere, but the Creedence magic is not there, just some sparks here and there. Track 12 Have you ever seen the rain is anyway a real classic. Three chords on the guitar, and the atmosphere is right on the spot. Track 13 Sweet hitch-hiker is the lighthearted"boggie woogie " rocker, with the right solo stuff with soul and passion on the guitar. Track 14 Hey Tonight, is a boogie rocker, updated to modern form, played live 2005, and still shines as an "oldie goodie". Track 15 The old man dspins to much around whit the same theme. Track 16 Rockin` all over the world, is the ultimate party fixer when it comes to plain and simpel entertainment when the party lacks atmosphere. Track 17 Lodi brings the ultimate car stereo song. It`s plain and simpel, and tells us much of the hard work as musician, and the rest is about life itself. The "walk along"musical theme is also in the quality department of a good tune. Track 18 Keep on Chooglin, is a rhythmic and atmospheric rock and roller. An ok listen.
Track 19 Green River. Back to the swamp rock atmosphere, with the right bayou atmosphere , with Fogerty soul drenched lead vocal as good as always. Track 20 Déjà vu (all over again) is modern Fogerty. but the voice is more flat, and some of the intensity is missing, but is well done. Track 21. Run trough the Jungel, is the voodoo hoodoo atmospheric track, and the one where every musical department play as a quality whole. Track 22 Hot rod heart is not my cup of the tea. It spins to much around in the same direction. Track 23 Travelin Band, is the ultimate "fastback hardtop sprinter". It realy spinns you around this one with the right touches of Ohæææææ, and weaaaaaaa. Track 24 Proud Mary, is an another classic which stills hold`s up with a refrain and a swing along rhythm that keeps you interested
Track 25. Fortunate Son, updated 2005 live version, that still holds up on there. This collection gives you anyway the best of the best, and some of the rest.
Long Road Home: Ult Fogerty Creedence Collection PosterThis comprehensive retrospective features, for the first time ever, all of the songwriter's most poignant and enduring hits. Included are seminal tracks from the Creedence catalog, along with the crème de la crème of his solo work, including "Centerfield," "Déjà Vu (All Over Again)," and "Hot Rod Heart" from the GRAMMY(R) Award-winning CD Blue Moon Swamp. Also on the disc are four new tracks recorded live by Fogerty during his 2005 tour of the United States: "Hey Tonight," "Bootleg," "Keep on Chooglin'," and a blistering rendition of "Fortunate Son." They were together just five years, and between the potent era of 1969-?71, Creedence Clearwater Revival reached the Top 10 with nine different singles, an accomplishment the band's architect John Fogerty has cracked just once ("The Old Man Down the Road") since CCR's demise in 1972. And now that the three-decade battle between Fogerty and the Fantasy label has ended, the man-and-band reunion comes full circle with a 25-song compilation that packages many of CCR's made-for-radio hits with a sprinkling of solo numbers and live recordings from recent Fogerty tours. Fogerty hasn't penned a whole lot of clunkers, and his CCR catalog sparkles with modernly remastered chooglin' classics like "Bad Moon Rising," "Travelin' Band," "Fortunate Son," "Lookin' Out My Backdoor" and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain." But the non-chronological sequencing is unpredictable, and far too many Creedence gems were left on the cutting room floor to call this package "The Ultimate." --Scott Holter John Fogerty has finally made peace with his old label, Fantasy Records. One of the results of this is the first ever assemblage of his Creedence Clearwater Revival hits with his less classic solo work. The Long Road Home is a mixed bag, though. Since there are plenty of worthy Creedence hits packages, fans likely already own 14 of these 25 tracks (four more CCR songs appear in recently recorded concert versions). But there's never been a compilation of Fogerty's inconsistent, occasionally inspired solo career, and unfortunately only seven tunes from six studio discs make the cut. There are no selections from the spotty Eye of the Zombie or his first post-Creedence covers album, the excellent Blue Ridge Rangers. Only two tracks from 1975's terrific yet obscure John Fogerty make an appearance, and both are represented in spirited but inferior live performances. The Long Road Home remains an enjoyable listen, but these limitations prevent it from living up to its "ultimate" subtitle. --Hal Horowitz
