Free Music Notes for Long Road Home: Ult Fogerty Creedence CollectionFree Music Review: We're not worthy... Hit: 5 Stars
...of consistent songwriting genius like this...Fogerty and co. had an unbelievable string of hits back in the day: Born on the Bayou, Fortunate Son, Green River, essentially too many to name here (see track list) and all of them hold up still - they are some just unbelievably potent and rockin' little ditties...even the tattooed and pierced minions that run my local Tower were bebopping around the store to this the other day. Timeless and powerful stuff, indeed...And it was only a matter of time before some marketing genius got the idea of putting all of the best from Creedence on one disc with all the solo Fogerty stuff. (Actually, I believe it was Fogerty's rapprochement with his old label that was the primary impetus behind this comp).
One tiny quibble though: songs from Fogerty's solo career, while quite tasty and choice, don't quite hold up to the standards of the Creedence era stuff, but hey, I'll take 'em. They still sound purty gotdang good to me!
Free Music Review: Haiku Perfection Hit: 5 Stars
Yeah, I have to agree with the reviewer who wanted Rock and Roll Girls on this collection. To my mind that song, and Old Man Down the Road hold up to the CCR stuff better than some of the other solos choices. But this is still a five star album and it sounds great. The great CCR songs are some of the best rock songs ever recorded, in my humble opinion. And some of the live cuts here are smokin', too.
Fogarty's best songs brings to mind great haikus -- everything is perfect, the lyrics, the performance . . . Green River, Almost Saturday Night, Proud Mary, Travelin Band, Down on the Corner, Fortunate Son, Hey Tonight . . .Wow!
But this CD isn't just a retrospective, it's a bid for future interest, too. That's why you get the live cuts and the recent cuts. It's a bid to let us know John Fogarty is still relevent. And man, he is.
Free Music Review: Essential disc for CCR/Fogerty fans Hit: 5 Stars
I got this CD for Christmas and it's great! If you're a CCR/Fogerty fan, it's essential for your collection because it has all the great CCR hits (well, except for "Suzie Q") and they've been remastered and sound terrific, alongside Fogerty's biggest solo hits that are included on the disc. One thing notable about this collection is that those solo Fogerty tracks and a couple of recently-recorded live tracks that are interspersed between the original CCR hits have a great flow. When I first saw how the sequencing was (before hearing the disc) my thinking was that the CCR tracks would be better all together and the Fogerty solo stuff separate but it's great just like they did it. Highly recommended CD! A definite cranker-upper, especially the live version of "Keep On Chooglin'", that is expertly followed up by the original "Green River".
Free Music Review: John Fogerty: Absolutely Legendary!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Anyone who complains that rarities and stuff off the Blue Ridge Rangers album is omitted on this is really missing the point. I bet that stuff will come to light in time, but for now, this is so wonderful. When listening to his Creedence stuff and then listening to his solo stuff on here the thing that strikes me the hardest is that there is no drop off in the quality of the material. Like the saying goes, it is all good. In terms of songwriting, singing, and musicmanship, is there any better than John Cameron Fogerty? Kind of sad really that he is not thought of more in the annals of rock, his compostions stands up against anyones quite admirably. Plus the sound of the Creedence material is flawless on here, so if you want to hear music from one of the greatest ever in rock, buy now and savor.
Free Music Review: Tambourines and elephants are playing in the band Hit: 5 Stars
Can any Creedence Clearwater Revival fan doubt that CCR is the prototypical American rock group of the sixties or that the work of John Fogerty is the heart and soul of the group? The Long Road Home takes some of the best of CCR and mixes in a few of the later Fogerty songs that best fit the CCR style.
I wonder about the sequence which has the upbeat Centerfield following the dark Bad Moon Rising. Fortunate Son, one CCR political statement, might have been a better choice to follow Bad Moon. As an aside, it is amusing to see the TV jeans commercial with the audio taken from Fortunate Son.
Even if you have all the CCR and Fogerty albums, this combination of CCR and Fogerty is worth getting. This album puts it all together to make a coherent whole.
