Free Music Review: FOGERTY'S BEST ALBUM SINCE CCR DAYS!
Hit: 5 Stars

JOHN FOGERTY'S "REVIVAL"!

JOHN FOGERTY - being the vocalist (and, man, what a voice!), lead guitarist, songwriter and record arranger/producer - contributed more to making the records of CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL than most "solo" artists contribute to their records. Elton John, for example, does not write the lyrics to his songs. Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, James Taylor, etc, etc do not produce their own records (and it is the record producer who largely determines the sound of the record).

So when CCR broke up in 1972, odds seemed strong that JOHN FOGERTY would continue on as a solo artist where CREEDENCE left off and continue making that super-cool swamp rock music for many many years. But, to the disappointment of rock and roll fans everywhere, new JOHN FOGERTY music came very sparingly in the 35 years since then. John has explained in so many words that various business matters had a detrimental effect on his ability to connect with his songwriting muse.

Well, folks, I am extremely delighted to say that in the year 2007 JOHN FOGERTY has reconnected with his muse more solidly than he has since the heyday of CREEDENCE. John's new album REVIVAL bristles with more deliciously chooglin' swampy countrified rock and roll than we've seen since the classic album COSMO'S FACTORY!!

Whether you're a little bit country or a little bit rock and roll - BUY THIS ALBUM!! YOU WILL SIMPLY LOVE IT!!!

Hit: 5 Stars

This is as good as all but the best 2 Creedence albums (River and Factory IMO) Starting off with some really good without being classic songs before The great rocker Creedence Song which has a nostalgic lyric and the classic guitar sound. Broken Down Cowboy is a darn good ballad and River is Waiting an enjoyable piece of work. The album really takes with the low down dirty swamp rock of Long Dark Night and what's this? A really great humorous lyric (George is in the Jungle, We can't afford more years...)that also packs a protest punch. Nobody should be surprised at this as John the vet wrote a classic song about politicians sons being able to slither out of service that others have to do. To see one later become president and then get brave with the lives of others would surely have stuck in his throat. Anyway this song rocks is funny and any George supporters taking offense need to get a sense of humour. Summer of Love about hippie days is awesome and has a Hendrix, Cream like sound without ripping any songs off either artist. Classic. We are on a roll now as Natural thing is a medium pace rocker which is really catchy. The album then concludes with four top notch tracks including genres from rockabilly to punk to rock. I have enjoyed all JF's solo albums to some degree but this is far and away the best as he is not avoiding his legacy of Creedence but building on it. BUY IT and remember this kind of music is made to be listened to LOUD!!

Free Music Review: John Fogerty's best solo album
Hit: 5 Stars

I only discovered Fogerty and CCR a few years ago, them being a generation or two ahead of my time. But I must say his work is very easy to fall in love with. I listened to his other solo albums, finding good, bad, and mediocre. Then I listened to this album. The trouble Fogerty has had on most of his solo albums is his hiding from the past, almost as if he's trying to ignore his CCR days. This has been both good and bad. No one wants to be defined by a small portion of their life, but in the same token, trying to hide from the past only makes the ghosts that much more present. Fogerty here finally stops trying to hide from those ghosts, and embraces his past, which leads to not just one of the best of his career, but of the year. The album is a send up to a time past, but also a reminder of the present. That great kind of album that you can listen to with the windows down, driving down the highway, not needing to skip any tracks. My friend seems to think this music is too old school, as there aren't any specific stand out tracks. While I disagree, loving the singles River is Waiting and Summer Of Love, I also think this is supposed to be listened to as an album. And while most people sell music based on singles, its refreshing to here something that is worth buying the entire album for. If you have even the littlest interest in John Fogert and CCR, you should get this. An amazing album.

Free Music Review: True Alt-Country
Hit: 5 Stars

man, Johns on track with this one. im not too familiar with his other solo work, but this sounds like classic CCR to me.
LOTS of raw, loud, twangy guitars. its like a shot in the arm after hearing all the limp-wristed guitar players polluting the radio now-a-days.
the album starts a little slow with some acoustic ballads, but less than half way through, things "pickup". "Creedence Song" is aptly titled. not to say that this is retro in anyway, its timeless music. to me, true American music ages like wine, and this all sounds as fresh as it did when Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Hank Williams Sr., Elvis Presley & Johhny Cash started it way back when.
Speaking of America, John does a little moral compass work in the lyrics. not in a patronizing way, but politically, things in the country are jacked up these days. but im no expert.
Theres even a tune about one of Louisianas Fortunate Daughters on here ( Britney, is that you? )
back to the music eh?
there are a lot of great songs here man, im surprised everytime i listen, how fresh and urgent it sounds.
theres a good mix of Country, Blues, Rock n Roll, and even a little punk-rock thrown in for good measure. No frills, just thrills.
if youre a Creedence fan, a Blues fan, or a fan of Alt-Country ( John Fogerty is the originator of that genre ) youll dig it. so check it out

Free Music Review: Fogerty's Back
Hit: 5 Stars

Hard to believe, but John Fogerty is his old self again. He's shelved his acrimonious differences with former bandmates and record labels and gotten back to what he does best - writing great heartland rock songs. Fogerty hasn't sounded this enlivened since his Creedence heyday. I thought his "Centerfield" album was good, but this is even way better.

For a famous roots rocker, he draws inspiration from some interesting sources. "Summer Of Love" sounds like a hybrid pastiche of Cream's "White Room", Hendrix's "Foxy Lady", and the Doors' "Hello, I Love You". "Somebody Help Me" also seems influenced by these same artists. With its laundry-list lyrics of Bush administration failures, "Long Dark Night" is a nod to Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues". "I Can't Take It No More" is another anti-Bush diatribe that clocks in at just over a minute and a half, and reminds me of "Judy Is A Punk" by the Ramones. Is it possible Fogerty's been listening to them? Equally unlikely, the album closer "Longshot" borrows the riff from Deep Purple's "Woman From Tokyo".

Whatever it is he's doing or listening to - it's working for him. His voice is as good as ever, and all the songs still come out sounding like vintage Fogerty. This is a masterful return to form, and one of the best rock albums of recent years.
