Free Music Notes for Revival (Dig)

Free Music Review: Fortunate Ones
Hit: 5 Stars

Have you seen the movie "Live Free or Die Hard"? Have you seen jeans commercials on TV? Creedence Clearwater Revival is there! Why?
John Fogerty has written some of the greatest music in the history of America. You think I'm exaggerating? John and Creedence were at Woodstock in 1969. Their list of hits is longer than most. Creedence had an astonishing track record: eight consecutive gold singles; Proud Mary- Jan.1969 through Have You Ever Seen the Rain?-Jan. 1971
Plus there were eight consecutive gold albums; Creedence Clearwater Revival through
Pendulum.
Then came solo hits of which I won't bother to remind you.

Now he has a new album.

He is not a nostalgia act redoing his old stuff except as an appropriate part of his concerts. His new material is fresh and yet comfortable. John Fogerty has made us happy and thoughtful over the years. His voice and guitar are some of the most recognizable in pop music and yet we still like them. He has not changed or copied himself but he is still fresh.

My son is 15 years old and he really likes this album. Strangely, John Fogerty is no longer "ours" (spoken as an over-50 fan). He has gone to another fan base.
Enjoy this CD and be grateful he is still around and playing.

Free Music Review: John Fogerty is back with all of the energy, bluesy-ness, and political commentary that he debuted with
Hit: 5 Stars

The Good
It's will come readily apparent, even to the casual listener, that Fogerty has gone back to his roots on this latest album. It only takes the first few twangy tones of "Don't You Wish it was True" to figure it out. The lyrics are a great commentary on how we should all get along. Fogerty cries out for a hero on "Gunslinger." "Creedence Song" has all the fever and swing that you expect from Fogerty as a solo artist or in his former band life.

John delivers his more of his bluesy soulful vocals on "Long Dark Night." What spices up a bluesy tune like some great harmonica and killer guitar soloing? "Summer of Love" recalls the `make love not war era' Fogerty grew up in, and is by far the best track on the album. "It Ain't Right" echoes the sounds of "Traveling Band." "I Can't Take It No More" takes John's energy to a whole new level. It seems with each new track Fogerty is getting more and more passionate about his lyrical content.

The Bad
Nothing

The Verdict
John Fogerty is back with all of the energy, bluesy-ness, and political commentary that he debuted with so many years ago. It's funny how even 40+ years later he can still write about the same issues, and their still relevant today.

Free Music Review: Hurray for John Fogerty!
Hit: 5 Stars

Hurray for John Fogerty!

For years bitterness and anger in his life robbed his public of opportunities to hear his music and now he has turned some big corners and released a new album. I am cheering for him. Go John! More!

I like this new album. It usually takes me two or three times through a song to get hooked up with it but several on this one grabbed me right out of the gate. Isn't that what CCR was all about? Music that grabbed you and rattled around in your head, your heart and soul all day long while you were working and going about life? Easy words, clear messages, catchy tunes, and in the back of your mind, John's voice, crying out the blues. He catches you where you live, in your heart.

John and I are on different political pages, but I hear what he is saying and it still resonates and strikes a chord within me. That's the spirit of his music.

So for those who want CCR and want it to be just like CCR, well, the past is the past. It's back there and we have all grown a lot older and many have scars from it. John's new album connects good memories from the past and looks towards the future. It's a different work.

I like it!

Free Music Review: Fogerty's best album
Hit: 5 Stars

I rarely like every song on an album the first time I hear them, but on Revival every song is at least good, most are excellent or great. I'm a big John Fogerty fan, and would probably not rate any of his albums very low, but this one is just special. In my opinion it is better than Centerfield and even Blue Moon Swamp as well as most of the Creedence albums! Revival might well be John Fogerty's best work ever.

The country rock of "Gunslinger", the autobiographical country ballad "Broken Down Cowboy", the hopefully choogling "Don't you wish it was true", the hilarious, bluesy and rocking political satire "Long Dark Night", the other blues rock song "Somebody Help Me", the spiritual "River is Waiting" featuring a great B.B. King style guitar solo and the AC/DCish Longshot all add to an impressive blend of different styles of American roots-rock.

Fogertys voice sounds great, the lyrics are some of his best and sharpest and the band is tight and rocking. 62-year-old John Fogerty delivers one of his very best and most rocking albums ever. Revival is a must have for anyone who likes Creedence Clearwater Revival or John Fogerty.

Free Music Review: A Fogarty Classic
Hit: 5 Stars

With Revival, John Fogerty once again reclaims his throne as King of the Swamp. This may be the best record he has ever made. Coming from died in the wool CCR fanatic, that is quite the statement.

Unlike most of his contempraries, Fogerty just seems to get better with age. Revival is a vibrant, instantly appealing album. There are no weak tracks. Instrumentally the songs are tight and economical...well, he was the frontman of CCR! Fogerty's aim this time around is to put out a record that returns to his CCR roots and with Revival, he demonstrates that he has lost none of tha magical knack for rock and roll tinged with a bit of country twang.

From the slightly gospel sounding River is Waiting to the high intensity rock and roll of I Can't Take it No More, the songs are melodic and each one deserves a careful relistening.

Revival is also a very tight album lyrically. The blunt political broadside of It Ain't Right is a highlight. In a minute and a half, Fogerty delivers the best anti-war anthem since Fortunate Son.

The album rocks and is an instant classic. Enough said.
