Free Music Review: Back to the Future
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not going to get into a long-winded song-by-song analysis of this great CD. That's been done enough already. I would focus on the collection of great tunes as a single entity. From the moment I slipped the CD into the player I was taken back to my youth (no small feat as I enter my mid 50's). It was suddenly 1978. The music fit as good as my favorite old Levi 501's. The sound is classic Fogerty. There is a hint of CCR, and reminders of all the best stuff Mr. Fogerty has done since then. But the really great thing is it's a sound that transcends time. It can easily be enjoyed by those not old enough to remember Creedence. Might even make you want to go out and buy some old CCR just to see what you missed. This is truly a masterpiece by an old master. Those who don't like it seem to be obsessed with the couple of political and anti-war tunes. I wonder, where is it written that it's OK for millions of people to go on political talk shows to air their views to the world, but not OK for an artist to express theirs in the format they are most comfortable with? Skip the politics and enjoy the music.

Free Music Review: Excellent, catchy and inspiring
Hit: 5 Stars

The first time I heard the CD was literally on the drive to the Tower Theatre in Philly last night. Each song was excellent, catchy and inspiring. Even so, I secretly was hoping he would play mainly the old stuff. Lucky for Fogerty/Creedence fans, the catalogue is full of short, catchy ditties. So, even when he played a pretty huge selection off the new CD, the songs fit right in with this older material. I went out and picked up the new CD for myself this morning and have been listening to it all day.

Don't listen to the deadender naysayers who can't get beyond their Bush loyalty to appreciate a Bush critic. Like everything else, they don't know what their talking about. This CD is a bargain at the $9.99 Amazon price. Hell, I paid the $13.99 Best Buy price and don't have any regrets.

Fogerty is better than ever. This CD has Centerfield beat by a landslide. Every song is a keeper. Some rock hard and some make you reflect. Fogerty is clearly a working man's rocker. And, by all means, try and see him if he comes around.

Free Music Review: Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!
Hit: 5 Stars

If you're a Creedence Clearwater fan but not a John Fogerty fan, then this album is for you. when I first saw this at HMV a couple weeks ago, I thought "well, here;'s another typical JF album and passed it up. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is John Fogerty at his best delivering the best album of songs in his entire solo career. I sense he misses his old band mates, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Maybe that's the reasoning for the title of his latest work, Revival. John's voice sounds in tip top form and sounds as fresh as it was way back when. Revival is a Creedence Clearwater Revival album that never was. Listen to CCR's Lodi and on Revival, you hear that old familiar CCR guitar. John fogerty definately gives his all with no strain on this latest brilliant piece of work. I definately highly recommend this masterpiece for any CCR or John Fogerty fan. As he sings in the song Creedence Song, "you can't go wrong when you play that Creedence Song". Well, you can't go wrong when you play all these Fogerty songs.

Free Music Review: John Fogerty Gets Back Into The Creedence Groove, With Great Results
Hit: 5 Stars

On REVIVAL, John Fogerty gets back into the groove that he employed with the great Creedence Clearwater Revival, with songs to match. His direct attacks on President Bush, even though I agree with them, are unmitigated outrage that seems like nothing but name-calling to me, and might cause me to bring up politics in inappropriate places, but when Fogerty's more subtle, or when he's just waxing nostalgic or singing about rock & roll and its redemptive power, this CD is the best he's made since his CCR days. It's great to see him back on Fantasy Records, where he produce Creedence's great work, now that Saul Zaentz, who cheated him badly, sold the company to Concord, which righted the wrongs Zaentz had done, and he's gotten his muse back after 2004's uninteresting DEJA VU ALL OVER AGAIN. Fogerty's advocacies of sanctions on countries that falsely convict foreigners, increased funding for law enforcement, and high-school community-service requirements make REVIVAL an essential purchase for your ears AND your conscience.

Free Music Review: One Of The Best Albums Of The Year
Hit: 5 Stars

I predicted that a lot of the one star reviews on here for John Fogerty's latest album, Revival, would be because people didn't want to hear his political views. Turns out I was right. That's a shame really. I guess I must be one of the lucky ones who can listen to Lynard Skynard as well as U2. That's one of the great things about music; people can use it to state their views. And for me it's still possible to enjoy music without necessarily agreeing with the artist's message.

And what about Revival? As my title states, I find it to be one of the best albums of the year. A variety of music, a little CCR sound, some intense and passionate singing, mixed with clever and sometimes angry lyrics gives this album real distinction over Fogerty's previous effort of Deja Vu, which was a pretty darn good album in it's own right. This one is his slam dunk.

And if there are any Cheap Trick fans reading this who are on the fence with Revival, consider this album to be Fogerty's "Rockford."
