Free Music Notes for Revival (Dig)Free Music Review: As good as any CCR album! I love it! Hit: 5 Stars
CCR has always been timeless. Much rock music from the late 60's and early 70's has dated psychedelica and idealistic hippy philosophies and sound like a time capsule. Creedence records hold up today because they sound as if they could have been recorded in 1958 instead of 1969-70 and its pure rock and roll values. In this new Fogarty album I was so surprised to hear his voice sounds the same as it did nearly 40 years ago. Fogarty is just a great rock singer..period..and all these new songs are excellent. My favorites are : Don't You Wish It Was True, Gunslinger, Broken Down Cowboy and I Can't Take It No More (probably the most political thing he's ever done..next to Fortunate Sun). That song is done in a frantic Little Richard style that yells about how many us feel where this country is headed. This is a big surprise! I really didn't expect this new release to be as good as anything CCR ever did, but it is. If you're a fan...you've got to get this. Mr. Fogarty hasn't lost a step.
Free Music Review: God Bless John Fogerty Hit: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this album. This is John going back to his Creedence roots. His previous album of original material, "Deja Vu, All Over Again", had to grow on me (and it did). A lot of the material seemed to be more mellow, somewhat more towards his family. But, this album, "Revival", brought back the sound that we have learned to love over the years from John and Creedence. Protest songs of the current administration such as "Long Dark Night" and "I Can't Take It No More" remind you of "Fortunate Son" and "Run Through the Jungle" from the original Creedence, only this time John actually names names in the text of the song. I love it! He also is willing to poke a little fun at himself and his former band with "Creedence Song". Overall this is an excellent album. The only downside for me was that 12 songs wasn't long enough as I wanted this album to go on and on. If you are a John Fogerty fan and a fan of the original Creedence sound, you will like this album.
Free Music Review: When I first heard this, I thought there was a CCR song I'd missed Hit: 5 Stars
Nope, it's just John Fogerty reviving that wonderful swampy roots rock sound. What gobsmacked me is that his voice sounds the same as it did back in the good old days--no painful surprises like some of his contemporaries recordings offer.
He covers a lot of territory. "Gunslinger" is Fogerty's call for a hero to straighten up some of the ills of the world.
"Creedence Song" really is CCR-revisted from the vocals to the guitar licks. "you can't go wrong if you play a little bit of that Creedence song."
"Summer of Love" is a tribute to 1969. It comes complete with a strong rock backbeat and a Hendrix riff.
I'll admit right now, this collection is probably best suited to old rockers and folks who loved CCR's style. Still, the CD is very well done and the music is the best rock I've heard in too many years. Definitely glad to experience this particular "Revival".
Free Music Review: Back from the Bayou with a vengeance Hit: 5 Stars
Actually, everything's already been said in the other glowing reviews, but it seems I have to write a review myself in order to give John the 5 star rating his new album deserves. I`ve got all the old CCR albums and some of John's solo releases, most notably Centerfield, but this one, in my humble opinion, contains some of the finest music he's done since way back in the early 1970s. It's come in for some heavy rotation on my car's mp3 player, which is unusual, though, to be honest, the last time I did that was a few weeks ago when I picked up Bruce Springsteen's new album, which likewise blew me away. It seems those old rockers won't fade away quietly. "Summer of Love" struck me as being a strangely familiar track, though probably intended, incorporating elements of Cream classics, and of course it rocks righteously. It`s great driving music, too. Also check out: Gunslinger, Creedence Song and Long Dark Night.
Free Music Review: Instant Classic - Wow...... Hit: 5 Stars
Man-oh-man. What a CD. Real music, a rarity for today. A mix of Southern Rock, Swamp Blues, Rock and Roll, with a couple of protest songs thrown in to boot. Never been a big follower of John Fogerty, but this one will change all of that.
Simple songs done right. Gunslinger wants to make you go out and vote and just do the right thing. Broken Down Cowboy makes you wanna cry, its almost country but I will call it Southern Rock so as not to offend my senses. And Somebody Help Me is a Rock/Blues song with a simple rhythm but plenty of heart where it counts. Throw in the protest songs and even though my politics are probably way different than John's, I can still enjoy an honest jolt of reality every now and then.
Buy this one, don't rip it off from your friends. John deserves to be well paid for this one. Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow.
Instant classic I tell you.
