Free Music Notes for Revival (Dig)Free Music Review: As Good As It Gets Hit: 5 Stars
This is a killer album from Mr Creedence and rates with his best work in and out of CCR. All John's musical styles, and unique hook-laden guitar licks are represented on the album and his voice has never sounded better. After a few plays these songs just seep into your middle consciousness and stay there, and you find yourself humming and singing them continually. It's hard to imagine that the guy singing these songs is 62 years old, they sound fresh and youthful. There is a confidence and assuredness in these songs that indicates that Mr Fogerty is working out of his creative centre. Many standout tracks here and as you'd expect John's music is both topical and timeless, containing universal as well as political themes. Great work from the legendary man, Keep 'em comin' John
Free Music Review: A master class in rock and roll Hit: 5 Stars
What a tonic to ears curdled by the sounds of Timbaland and Swizz Beatz that assault from all angles. This is a deceptively simple album. At first blush, it almost sounds like a guy gathered in the garage with some buddies to toss off some effortless tunes. Then it sinks in that it only sounds that easy because John's that good. It's amazing what a master can do with guitars, bass, drums and background vocals. Track after track of immediately enjoyable, infinitely listenable rock and roll. I've loved all of Fogerty's solo albums - even the much maligned Eye of the Zombie. I can't pick a favorite. But this one's damn good. Fogerty makes a very strong case for the idea that old guys do it better. If you've been wanting to kill your radio, buy it this instead.
Free Music Review: Fogerty Revives Creedence Hit: 5 Stars
Like fine wine, or maybe bootleg moonshine, John Fogerty has aged well. There are overt flashbacks like Creedence Song that reflect on the influence with a modern connection, but throughout the CD you'll hear hints of Creedence and Fogerty songs. The voice is stronger than ever and the guitar playing swampily resonates through songs like Summer of Love. There are full speed ahead straightaway rockers like It Ain't Right and and pensive ballads like Broken Down Cowboy with clever lyrics about "That Bum-Around, Tumble-Down Heart". John reminds us that he still ain't no Fortunate Son as he puts George and friends in their place while pointing out that we're "sick and tired of your dirty little war." Revival keeps on chooglin'.
Free Music Review: Fogerty rocks again! One of his best. Tells it like it is. Great Hit: 5 Stars
This disc rocks from start to finish, I particularly liked the one that puts Bush down, talking about not needing another "fortunate son". Fine songs, well crafted, with all of the "hooks" you'd expect from Fogerty. Worth the money. It is a fine complement to Long Road Home (which either needs a companion disc, with tracks from Eye Of The Zombie and some b sides, e.g., I
Confess, or to be made, one day, into a two disc set). I've got all the cds and have several of the CCR ones too. Another track for the "expanded" edition of Long Road home (one day) or a companion disc is Graveyard Train.
It's a helluva song. Buy Revival and Long Road Home (both versions). I plan to buy the live one next.
Free Music Review: Well done, John Hit: 5 Stars
Boy oh boy! This one is just great. I haven't been so pleased with an album in a long time. One of the other reviews made a comment that it was like listening to CCR again. I found the same thing to be true. You can hear so much of that CCR sound in these songs. That is if you were really a CCR fan and listened to all of the songs on the old albums. Those who remember just the hits might not have the same feelings that I do, but the sound and the lyrics are just top notch Creedence. My favorite is 'Creedence Song' but they're all good. Typical are some commentaries on society which really hit the mark, especially for those that might be called 'the silent majority'.
Well done, John. Well done.
