"The Open Road" is great. It improves on the the previous "Same Old Man" CD, which I loved! John, once again, spins stories that ooze life. This man is my favorite American songwriter and well deserving all the allocades he has been getting.
From the rollicking title track,'The Open Road' to the wonderful closer 'Carry You Back Home' this collection of songs, written and produced (and recorded and mixed) by John shows why this man is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
His weathered vocals match perfectly with these 11 songs about life, love, loss and just about everything else a human being can feel, see, touch, etc...
It's just him and his band of (longtime Goners drummer) Kenneth Blevins, guitarist Doug Lancio and bassist Patrick O'Hearn. No fancy production. Just seasoned players at their best.

Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt s brand new album, The Open Road. A classic Hiatt record, the rockin songs sizzle with the heat from two-lane blacktop on a summer s day. Hiatt and his touring band (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars) recorded a set that gives Garage Rock a new meaning.
