I love Prince's Musicology, but its Prince you know its going to be good. Usher: everyone's heard Confessions and loves it. But J.L. provided this years greatest surprise. A talented brother with a refreshing take on r&b music and he definitely turning the game out. With influence ranging from Donny Hathaway to the purple one himself, he also has a little hip-hop background which is apparent on ths hit, "Used to Love You." And yes J.L holds it down on the uptempos but it is on the hit "Ordianry People" "So High" and "I Can Change w/Snoop" that he shines. His gospel trained voices swoops and cries and belts its way through hip hops tough/soulful beats (provided by none other than Kanye) and through soulful beats that could have been on been on Donny Hathaway's "Everything is Everything" album or Stevie's "Superstitition." He is doing big things and his talent does not stop there. He plays a multitude of instruments with the piano being his favorite. It is now official: J.L and Fantasia are the best new artists of 2004 hands down. Do yo thanG!!!
