Free Music Review: John Legend Get Lifted
Hit: 5 Stars

One of my favorite CD I listen to it all the time.

Free Music Review: Off To A Great Start
Hit: 5 Stars

John Legend really changed the R&B game when he dropped his Grammy winning debut album. "Ordinary People" was amazing and he could definitely perform well live. That lacks a lot in the industry but he's the truth. Other tracks that are good are "I Can Change", "Lets get Lifted", So High, "Used To Love U", and "Don't Have to Know". This one is better than his new album so pick this up.

Free Music Review: This Guy Is Just Cool
Hit: 5 Stars

You know what, I just heard John Legend interviewed by Charlie Rose on PBS and what I saw was a man that wasn't just about his music but was into the preservation of the "singer/songwriter." He really comes accross well and he's got a wonderful ear.. as an aspiring musician, I'm proud to call John Legend one of my biggest role models.. what a neat guy!!!

Free Music Review: Good CD
Hit: 4 Stars

I can listen to this CD from beginning to end and not skip a song. It tells a story so you can't skip any songs. LOL my friends and i get a kick out of the humorist things he says its a good buy.

Free Music Review: Legend is not quite deserving of comparison to Marvin Gaye
Hit: 2 Stars

Like so many, R&B artist of today, Legend, fails only in his selection of material to perform. He is a talented singer. However, an absence of beautiful and memorable melodies and lyrics that shake the emotional core of the listener wastes his talent.

In "Heaven" for example, his melody lacks depth and the majority of the song becomes a repeat of a worn out hook... "Heaven only knows... yeah, yeah... oooh oooh." While the body of the lyrics contain less than gems like: "We can lose control, baby don't you know".

Compare this to Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On?"
"Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying"

Many artists, opt for writing their own material for the financial incentive, for example Mariah Carey, in writing her own material she has sacrificed an overall beauty in the art in favor of spotlighting her vocal skill. I hope that Legend's management is providing him with the quality song writers he needs to promote him to great heights.

Yahoo is previewing Legend's performance videos and is comparing him to Marvin Gaye. This is premature and in a significant way diminishes Gaye's musical legacy. Legend definitely possesses the physical skills to reach great heights, but he has not yet demonstrated the type of musical savvy that places him in this elite catagory

In an interview he says that he likes music that is timeless. In order to achieve this Legend may need to employ professional writers.
