Free Music Notes for Anthology

Free Music Review: A great collection
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this Anthology just a couple of months ago and can't stop listening to it. This collection is not merely for a hard core Lennon/Beatles fan but for anyone even somewhat familiar with his music. If you are a luke warm Lennon fan, it will win you over. Although I own almost every Beatles and Lennon album, Anthology has many suprises that will not disappoint such as wonderful previously unreleased material (i.e. Mr. Hyde and Dear John) and superior versions of old songs (such as I'm Losing You.) Plus you can hear John's engaging sense of humor and infectuous wit. Although some books claim John was always asking the producer to "bury his voice" and cover it with all sorts of studio tricks, some of his best stuff is his voice accompanied just with a piano or soft accoustic guitar.

I highly recommend this collection.

Free Music Review: John's in the sky
Hit: 5 Stars

This set shows us the real John, the passion and hard work that went into the making of each song, and fun and frustration he had while making all those beautiful records. There are four discs here, and each one individually is worth more than the total cost of the set.

Chronologically, this collection takes you on a journey that picks you up at Working Class Hero, and leaves you with John whistling and strumming his guitar. When you're finally dropped off, you can't help but lament that the ride is over.

The packaging is almost as interesting as the music. The set is decorated with John's art, and the booklet (a full 60 pages) is very insightful. I'm sure you're already a fan of the late Mr. Lennon, but these four discs will show you a side of him that you can't see anywhere else. This collection is truly priceless.

Free Music Review: OUTSTANDING!! CLASSIC!! LENNON AT HIS ULTIMATE BEST
Hit: 5 Stars

An outstanding collection of classic Lennon tunes. You can hear the metamorphis taking place from disc 1 to disc 4. The guide vocals he performs on songs such as "Only You" and "I'm the Greatest" exhibit the raw nature of John's distictive and unforgetable voice. As one listens to this glorious CD set, the impact of his death becomes more imminent with each track we hear. John Lennon is the mastercraftman of song construction, especially when comparing these diamonds-in-the-rough recordings to the finished studio product we all have come to know so well. From the straight pop rock sounds of "Whatever Gets You Through The Night" to the heartwrenching "Beautiful Boy", The John Lennon Anthology is the best of the genre.

Free Music Review: If you like solo John Lennon, you'll love this anthology.
Hit: 5 Stars

This set of disc's is exactly what the John Lennon fan is hoping it would be. The vast majority of the selections in this set are top quality audio, not scratchy home recordings (although there are some of those). Like the Beatles Anthology, this is John Lennon trimmed down in the early takes and alternate versions of his solo work. If you aren't already a fan of the solo material, you may not be ready for this...although I actually am enjoying these versions a bit more than the album material. There is a lot of the pre- and post-take banter included with the song, and that provides a nice insite to John Lennon's personality in the recording studio. If you are a John Lennon fan, this is an investment that you have to make!

Free Music Review: Yoko Ono's greatest work of art
Hit: 5 Stars

Yoko Ono has created a masterpiece which conveys John Lennon's work and mindset after the Beatles in a moving and thought provoking way. With some of the most beautiful CD packaging since the great days of the LP album cover, this four CD set recreates vividly and distinctly four diferent periods, moods and moments spannning the breadth of John Lennon's post Beatles life, concerns and creative energy. Each CD literally comes as close as one can to reincarnating the moment, the man and his music at that period and allows us to experience Lennon intimately as never before- a fantastic musical and cultural experience - highly recommended for the fans and for those who didn't have a chance to know Lennon while he was alive.
