Free Music Notes for Lennon Legend: The Very Best Of John Lennon

Free Music Review: Superb Set!
Hit: 5 Stars

Lennon solo was always an infuriating listen. Each of the individual albums had their fair share of good and not-so-good cuts. Wading through it all, especially for non-fans like myself, was often-times frustrating and despairing. Collections was an OK anthology, but "No.9 Dream" was the truncated 45-rpm version and not the far more whistful album track. Shaved Fish was OK, but the sound remastering left an awful lot to be desired. Legend rights all wrongs and includes all the key tracks from the entirety of his solo career. And that's how it should be. Of course he was with The Beatles. And fans can go to the Beatles albums for his best stuff with the group. Adding them to this release would have done his solo output little justice. At the core of these releases lies what made Lennon great: his political/religious stance, his romanticism, his passion for life. From the intense set-up of "Instant Kharma" to the Elton John co-lead on "Whatever gets You Through The Night", from "Stand By Me" to "(Just Like)Starting Over", Legend paints a bold picture using the artist's finest moments. It's one of the best albums I own and a desert island disc. Absolutely essential!

Free Music Review: The man, the myth, the... oh, whatever.

This is sooooo close to being the final say on Lennon, along with Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. Two little switcheroos would've elevated it to that position. Off with Power to the People (seriously, what a crappy song!), and on with Steel and Glass. And while I understand including Stand By Me to represent Rock and Roll (which, incidentally, is pathetic) just for balance's sake, how about if we Bring on the Lucie here? The lack of God and Crippled Inside is a bit annoying, but as I said you really need Ono Band and kinda need Imagine (it's not in Ono Band's league, but it can be brilliant in spots).
Other than that, this has everything you need. Mother, Love, Working Class Hero, Imagine, Jealous Guy (my favorite Lennon song), Mind Games, Whatever Gets You Thru the Night, #9 Dream, Woman, Watching the Wheels, Borrowed Time, (Just Like) Starting Over, Happy Xmas (War is Over), the REAL Give Peace a Chance (not the gutted version on Shaved Fish), Cold Turkey, Instant Karma, Nobody Told Me... if you're wondering what the big deal about Lennon is, which obviously means you've been living in a cave on Pluto's moon Charon, this and pretty much every Beatles album will convince you of that.

Free Music Review: legend
Hit: 5 Stars

There is no question, the man was an absolute genius. One has to search far and wide nowadays to find such genuine talent in songwriting. "Legend" sums up probably the cream of Lennon's post-Beatles achievements. This collection signifies the massive diversity that seems second nature to the man. From heart-rending and setemental classics such as "Jealous guy" (one of the most beautiful songs ever written), "Imagine", "Woman", "Love", "Beautiful boy", "Mother (with obvious connections to Lennon's poignant nickname for Yoko)"; to the social statements of "Working class hero (a finely crafted acoustic number)","Happy Xmas", and "Give peace a chance". But probably a personal favourite from the collection would have to be "Watching the wheels", it oozes Beatles-appeal, and just goes to show who was the talent behind the phenomenon. All in all, highly recommended to anyone who has been fortunate enough to discover the legend that is John Lennon. It was a sad, sad day when he was taken from us.

Free Music Review: John Lennon is God!!! End of Story.
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best album in the whole world ever!!! There are no two ways about it. And that has come from an eighteen year old who wasn't even born before the tragic death of the best artist the world ever saw. The best song is 'Jealous Guy', because it was mine and my ex-boyfriends song and it is just so sad when you fall out with your loved one and you listen to it. Try it! I also like 'Beautiful Boy' because I had a crush on someone called Shaun. No, because I think it is so sweet that a father can actually show his emotion over his new-born son to the whole world. 'Mother' makes me cry, too, because of the way he was all alone at the age of thirteen and he is actually crying at the ned of the song. It is amazing that those circumstances that Lennon suffered resulted in an utter musical genius. Some songs, like 'Instant Karma' and 'Whatever Get's You Thru The Night' and 'Power to the People' get on your nerves a bit, but the words to the songs have so much meaning. John Lennon is so brilliant, no wonder he has survived this long since he was shot in 1980!
