Free Music Notes for Lennon Legend: The Very Best Of John Lennon

Free Music Review: Great single disc collection of Lennon essentials
Hit: 5 Stars

Lennon's solo albums were always hit or miss affairs. Lennon Legend manages to collect most of Lennon's essential singles with much improved sound quality. What is a surprise, though, is the missing Move Over Ms. L. While it wasn't a hit (but then again neither was Mother or Working Class Hero)that particular rarity (which you can only find on The John Lennon Collection or the boxset)managed to funnel John's personal demons into a compelling 3 minute song.

On the other hand, this collection brings focus back to John's other important singles and album tracks that were left off of Collection (in favor of a healthy sampling from Double Fantasy). I was rather surprised to see the credit change on Give Peace A Chance (McCartney was always listed as co-writer even though he wasn't). Yes it does correct a mistake but it seems....petty given the circumstances.

The best tracks here remind me why I liked Lennon in the first place--his frankness and rock and roll spirit. If you're looking to have one album to represent Lennon this would be a fine selection.

Free Music Review: A great album.
Hit: 5 Stars

John Lennon's solo project was just as great as the Beatles.

All of his songs were well written and well recorded. His solo projects inspired thousands of musicians and song writers. Buy "The Best of John Lennon", if you like music.

I've always heard (from the mouths of babes) that Dylan and Lennon inspired each other. It was a trade. the Beatles early work spoke mostly of relationships and off the wall love stuff. Their later music did say something. As Lennon said all of the Beatle music was a diary of who they were at the time. As for John Lennon's solo stuff. John did not have a solo career just because it was the thing to do. People need to get their facts straight. John at one point quit his solo career for his son and came right back with "Double Fantisy". Lennon said someone who is a song writer just can't stop writing music, it's something I'll do for the rest of my life.

Just because you hate good music doesn't mean it gives you a licens to make things up.

BUY THIS ALBUM!!! (if you like good music).

Free Music Review: Lennon Legend...It speaks for itself.
Hit: 5 Stars

So what should you do if you're a Beatles fan and you own all of the albums? Start buying the solo albums! Most of them are worthy of a positive nod. However, if you're in to John Lennon but aren't too familiar with his solo work, this is an excellent place to start. From the unforgettable ballad, "Imagine" to the timeless rock anthem, "Give Peace a Chance", Lennon weaves a spell of musical magic that captivates all listeners. His music is filled with spirit and purpose. It's like a wall full of beautiful pictures that builds around the listener. Frankly, it's tough to listen to Lennon's music without feeling a bit ripped off. Not because of the music, but because Lennon was sadly murdered. He could have produced more exciting yet soothing piano with his authentic voice, but it I suppose that it wasn't meant to be. But we still can look back at all that John Lennon has done for rock and roll and remember... Through his music we go back in time and "Imagine" once more with John Lennon....the Legend

Free Music Review: Lennon's Music Still Shines On 35 Years Later
Hit: 5 Stars

With or without The Beatles, John Lennon was always a musical genius. While none of his albums never reached the same level of success that any Beatles albums met with (though "Imagine",
"Walls & Bridges" and "Double Fantasy" all went to number one"), Lennon's solo music is still excellent.

"Lennon Legend" is a 20 track collection that contains pretty much all the Lennon you can want, incuding "Imagine", "Instant Karma (We All Shine On)", "Whatever Gets You Through The Night", "#9 Dream" and "(Just Like) Starting Over", all of which sound better than ever, thanks to a superb remastering job. You also got a few underrated gems, like "Mother", "Jealous Guy", "Borrowed Time" and "Working Class Hero". And this collection does not ignore the woefully underrated 1975 covers album "Rock & Roll", represented by his great cover of "Stand By Me".

The booklet isn't much, just some useless track information and some average photos. But forget the packaging and enjoy the pure magic of the music of John Lennon.

Free Music Review: A true legend
Hit: 5 Stars

John Lennon is without a doubt one of the greatest singer/songwriters of the 20th century. This album has 20 of his songs. Of course, it won't please everyone, there are a lot of songs that could have been added, and maybe a couple that could have been left off, but as a whole it's a wonderful overview of his solo career. I also own the out-of-print John Lennon Collection, and even though this album repeats all but 3 of the songs on 'Collection', this is still a great album to own, especially if you don't have the other. The booklet, though, could have been much more informative. True, there are plenty of photos and a track-by-track listing, but no real information, no liner notes or essay...nothing that should have been included, so that is a mild disappointment, especially seeing that the booklet has 20 pages, and 2 of those pages are almost blank except for "Lennon Legend" printed in the centre of them. Even the 'John Lennon Collection' came with the lyrics.
