Free Music Review: Acoustic Continuum
Hit: 5 Stars

For «The Village Sessions»-EP John Mayer rerecorded five tracks from his latest album Continuum («Waiting On The World To Turn», «Belief», «Slow Dancing In A Burning Room», «I'm Gonna Find Another You», «In Repair») and one from Try! John Mayer Trio Live in Concert («Good Love Is On The Way»). In these stripped-down-to-the-essential-arrangements Mayer presents himself as a gifted guitarist and singer whereas the songs sound atmospheric and intoxicating (especially «In Repair»). As a special treat, the «Village»-version of «Waiting On The World To Turn» features the whole band (Pino Palladino on bass, Steve Jordan on drums/percussion, and Ricky Peterson on keys) and is spiced with some background vocals from Ben Harper... Good one!

Free Music Review: Definitely a 'Must Have'
Hit: 5 Stars

I've just recently become a John Mayer fan after hearing him on Herbie Hancock's "Possibilities" and then purchasing "Continuum". "The Village Sessions" contains several tracks from "Continuum", but on an acoustic level that really allows Mayer's songwriting and vocal abilities to shine (not to mention his acoustic guitar skills). "Waiting on the World to Change" is similar to Continuum's version, but the backing vocals have a bit of a gospel quality. "Belief" and "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" are my absolute favorites. "In Repair" is surprisingly good and, in my opinion, better than the Continuum version. Not only is this CD a great value, but it has timeless listenabilty. All in all, this CD is a 'must have' for any collector of great sounding music with substance.

Free Music Review: Wonderful
Hit: 5 Stars

It is great to be able to hear John Mayer play these acoustic/stripped down versions of some his song.

The opener is the well known "Waiting On The World To Change" and is the most non-acoustic song on the record, though you can hear the acoustic. Beginning with "Belief" the record becomes more special as it is John and the acoustic with wonderful versions of the songs. His vocals are well done and clear and he shows why he is such a good guitar player from the uptempo Belief, the quiet portions of Slow Dancing and the picking on Good Love.

Just a great collection of songs. The only down side is that there is 6 tracks on this. It would have been nice to hear more tracks on this record. Hopefully there will be more.

Free Music Review: Nice to see talent in today's music scene
Hit: 5 Stars

I must admit that when John first appeared with album # 1 a few years back I said to myself "here we go again, another pretty boy with no musical substance". Since then, I have been proven wrong and become a fan. In addition, I must applaud him for being so ambitious. He's released alot of music and covered alot of ground in 5 years. Although I wasn't crazy about the trio record (he ain't Hendrix or SRV even though he is a huge fan of both), the Continuum album really brought me around. Most of the songs are on the mellow side but still are great! This EP contains acoustic stripped down versions of some of those songs and is priced well so I would advise anyone who likes his current album to pick this up as a companion piece.

Free Music Review: A lot of the same, just better and shorter
Hit: 5 Stars

Nowhere else in John Mayer's discography will you find his voice or guitar playing in such top form. It is only six songs, and "Waiting on the World to Change" doesn't really fit the otherwise totally stripped format, but with songs like "Belief" and "I'm going To Find Another You" showcasing his talent so strongly, it's hard not to recommend it. Personally I think "Slow Dancing..." is the best here..his vocals really are spot-on and I appreciate the lyrics for some reason or another(although I read somebody calling his lyrics on the afformentioned song 'juvenile,' I really have to disagree). These songs were meant to be heard this way, believe me...or buy it yourself and find out. It's only seven bucks.
