Of course I share the opinions of the many that realize what a fantastic spiritual "record" this is but what many do not realize is that if it was not for Alan Douglas (record producer) this music would have never reached anyones ears and that also runs true of John's other album "Devotion." The original release was on the "Douglas" record label. Alan, if you know who he is, was very much criticized for his involvement in the Jimi Hendrix releases "Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning" whereby he erased the rhythm tracks and overdubbed studio musicians and created a storm of controversy. Whatever - he was in part also responsible for the Band of Gypsys AND he was going to set up Hendrix with the musicians on McLaughlin's fusion album "Devotion" but Jimi decided to take a detour into the unknown so John wound up playing on it. One of those musicians was one Buddy Miles and Larry Young - the organist who SHOULD have been a part of the Gypsys. No doubt in my mind that had Hendrix lived he would have been a major part of the fusion movement. Great album. This is music like you never heard and we will probably never see this type of creative art again, at least in our lifetime. For now, we have American Idols to listen to - isn't that great?
