Free Music Notes for Harry Potter and the Chamber of SecretsFree Music Review: John Williams does it again! Hit: 5 Stars
John Williams' score to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is another masterpiece from our modern day musical master. This score shares just enough in common with the score from the first movie so that we feel comfortable that, yes, we have reentered Harry Potter's world. However, there are some great new themes that are extraordinary. The track "Fawkes the Phoenix" has quickly become my favorite Harry Potter theme and is worth the price of the CD alone. How does the music fit in with the movie? Very well, thanks. After all, this is John Williams. Chamber of Secrets is a darker and more intense movie than the first installment. And the music reflects this. The Flying Car, The Spiders, Meeting Aragog, and Dueling the Basilisk are all examples of intense music that synergizes the visual action. The emotion is all there: sadness, fear, happiness. Oh, and don't forget: at least with the initial release, the CD comes with 6 different cover inserts. (I got Hagrid). The regular movie insert is also present behind the collectable inserts. Overall, this gets my 5 star rating for movie soundtracks.
Free Music Review: Another John Williams Masterpiece! Hit: 5 Stars
Yet another fantastic assembly of music from John Williams for the second installment of the Harry Potter stories. I think that Chamber of Secrets director Chris Columbus says it best:"When John Williams and I first viewed the rough cut of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," we realized that the film, at it's core, still possessed the heart and soul of the first Harry Potter film. But Harry's second year at Hogwarts was also edgier, funnier and much more exciting. John's score would need to reflect the changes in Harry Potter's world, while not abandoning the thematic integrity of the original film's soundtrack." "When you play this album, you'll hear the familiar themes that all of us have grown to love and associate with Harry Potter. You'll also hear a wealth of new material, a glorious tapestry of themes that are filled with humor, emotion and magic. Like the Potter novels, John Williams' new score is not a sequel. It is a timeless classic, a rich, complex work that brilliantly captures Harry's second year at Hogwarts." ~Chris Columbus. September 18, 2002. London
Free Music Review: bloody brilliant!! Hit: 5 Stars
i bought it the first day it came out...andit was the third one left! i didnt think it could get any better, but it did. the themes arent as innocent as before but a bit darker, a little bit more mysterious. yes harrys wonderous world is on here again, i would have rather had hedwigs theme again, but the fawkes the phoenix track makes up for it. it isnt in chronological order like the first soundtrack- for example gilderoy lockhart is #4 wheras the cornish pixies track is # 15. its sort of weird, but it flows better how it is rather than trying to program it so it is in chronological order (i tried...). there are some songs that are completely new but there are others that have the same theme as the ones in the SS soundtrack, but JW tweaks it so it builds and adapts to the new movie.its beautiful though.there is also that 'hero' quality if you know wht i mean...its a must buy! it is very touching you listen to it and you just feel so harry potter. just like the first soundtrack you can feel all the emotions felt from the movie and the book. it really is just beautiful.
Free Music Review: John Williams' own brand of magic Hit: 5 Stars
John Williams is, hands-down, the finest composer of our time. Given the sheer volume of his work, it's amazing how consistently good he still is after so many years. His score for "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is just as good as the first, carrying over the light bells and woodwinds he employed to craft Harry's theme and charging it with excitement that brought the scenes from the book to mind even before I'd seen the movie.Williams has crafted some of the most recognizable heroic themes in movie history. Think about it -- Superman. Indiana Jones. Luke Skywalker. And now Harry Potter. Each has a brilliant, distinctive theme that brings his story to mind the minute you hear it, and all of them came from the baton of John Williams. I only hope he manages to score the entire Harry Potter franchise (as he's done for "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" thus far). After such amazing work, anyone else would be a disappointment. (For evidence of that, check out the music from "Superman"s II-IV.)
Free Music Review: Absolutley Wonderful! Hit: 5 Stars
I loved the soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone from last year, and I assumed that I would like the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets the same, but I don't. I like it better. In the secong movie, Harry Potter has grown up, and so has the soundtrack. While the soundtrack first movie was enchanting, it sounds almost babyish compared to the second one. The action/adventure themes stand out much more (when listening to it, I sort of sensed a little bit of Indiana Jones here and there), but not to the point where they're annoying. When you listen to it, you can see Harry Potter fighting a giant basilisk, or Moaning Myrtle whining about being dead, or Harry and Ron taking off for Hogwarts in a flying car. Also, a beautiful new theme is introduced, that centers around Fawkes the pheonix. It intertwines with the familiar theme from the last soundtrack (and many others) to produce an absolutley wonderful CD.
