Free Music Notes for John Williams - Greatest Hits 1969 - 1999Free Music Review: Vast Demonstration of Power of Exquisite Soundtrack Music Hit: 5 StarsBeing movie illiterate most of the time, I found myself so attracted to those soundtracks with which I was already familiar, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, etc., some even loving the music but not especially remembering nor enjoying the movie nearly as much. What power in these that I am still unfamiliar with the movie, e.g. Theme from Schindler's List, Look Down, Lord from "Rosewood, or the Theme from Far and Away. One forgets the breadth and depth of this contemporary composer and the power of his work first heard in Surround Sound in the theatre, then pulsatiang out of one's personal stereo. What a magnificent collection to enjoy. Especially enjoy some of the soloists such as Perlman, Parkening, Morrison, etc.
Free Music Review: Wish I could rate it with SIX stars! Hit: 5 StarsI'm 27 years old, and, as for most folks who are around my age, I was fortunate enough to grow up during a time of explosive movie imagination, mostly due to the minds of George Lucas and Steven Speilberg, but there were others. For me, the works collected on this CD are a soundtrack to my childhood. Who can listen to the Star Wars or Superman themes without smiling, without the hairs on your arms standing on end? Who can listen to The Imperial March from "The Empire Strikes Back" without humming along, BOM-BOM-BA-BOM-BA-BOM-BA-BOM? Certainly not me. And to realize that all of these musical masterpieces were composed and conducted by one man, John Williams, demands your admiration!
Free Music Review: williams and wagner Hit: 5 StarsPrettymuch has been said about what to expect from this album; hwever, I think that people who generally like williams scores , will like some of the works of Richard Wagner. If you love Williams grand, sweeping, rousing themes, then Wagner's preludes would do the trick. Williams seems heavily influenced by Wagners work, and fans would probably like to hear where his influence comes from. Try a cd of Wagners preludes but stay away from the entire operas- i dont think your quite ready for those just yet. Highlights, though, would be fine.
Free Music Review: ... Hit: 1 StarsI used to like Mr. Williams. His majestic score in Star Wars Trilogy simply blew me away. However, after twenty minutes of listening to this album, the only thing in my mind was pushing the stop the button. When you are listening to Superman, if you tell other people this is Star Wars, they might be convinced. Mr. Williams uses the same kind of music almost everytime and I got sick, sick of those loud, clamorous, annoying wind instruments which are much more disturbing than rap or rock music. To sum up, if you like Mr. Williams, don't buy this one.
Free Music Review: A Tribute To A Master of the Art Hit: 5 StarsThough I love other movie composers like Hans Zimmer and James Horner, I think the true master of movie scoring is John Williams. With the first two composers mentioned, it is easy to identify their work. On one hand, this is good because they have developed their own unique styles, but on the other, it can be somewhat monotonous. If you don't know what I mean, listen to the soundtracks for the Rock and follow it with Crimson Tide. The two are practically identical at times, as are Horner's Titanic and Mask of Zorro. However, John Williams doesn't ever seem to fall into that trap. The only thing that remains the same from score to score for him is soaring melodic lines, beautiful harmonies, and pure magic wrapped up within the orchestra. I am a student of classical music performance, and Williams is in my opinion, a true master of composition. If you don't own anything else written by John Williams, you should buy this CD set and see for yourself the incredible scope of his musical imagination.
