Free Music Notes for Sometime Tuesday MorningFree Music Review: Great Stuff Hit: 5 Stars
Johnny A. takes guitar tone to a different level. He has a smoky, country, jazzy, crunchy, and smooth sound that is akin to other artists but so well fused to make a sound all of his own- this is just a great album.
If you play guitar, buy this album. Technical ability and musical knowledge go a long way for the instrument, but feel and taste are incredibly vital. This album will show you why. There is intention behind every note. This guy has an appreciation for harmony, melody, rhythm, and the art of a song.
Try not getting that excited little feeling in your stomach when you listen to this album. It's as much a testament to guitar as Hendrix's Live At Filmore East.
Pick it up. Listen. Learn. Love. Repeat.
Free Music Review: Guitar Tone God Hit: 5 Stars
I ripped opened the CD case and jammed the new Johnny A CD, "Sometime Tuesday Morning" into the deck. Stretched out on the couch, closed my eyes and some guy with a Gibson guitar and a Marshall amp appeared in my living room. I thought I recognized the style- it was Danny Gatton meets Chet Atkins. This CD is a real killer- the tones are real, lush and smoky. There's no hint of any chorus, layered, overproduced kind of jive. Just a great guitar player with a cool sounding band. Buy it now, it will be your favorite in no time. By the way, his rendition of "Witchita Lineman" will give you serious goose bumps.
Free Music Review: Sideman Steps Forward! Hit: 5 Stars
After years of forming and playing with little known bands, Johnny A. opted to become a sideman or session player for various artists which included a six year stint with Peter Wolf, former frontman of the J. Geils band. Coming full circle, Johnny is back at center stage with this release. However, rather than to make his comeback with another rock band, Johnny chose to improvise somewhat and let his guitar do the singing for him. The result is an exceptional instrumental that hints at various styles, including country and rock, and yet remains true to jazz. This is truly one of those can't miss CD's.
Free Music Review: Best Living? Johnny A Hit: 5 Stars
Johnny A has tone, texture, rythmn, technique and taste. Johnny has total command of the of his instrument and demonstrates a flawless range of styles. Johnny's version of "Yes it is" is text book. "Walk Don't Run" is to die for, the Guitar and Amp settings on "Tex Critter" are models of tone, texture and styling! While I believe Danny Gatton is the best ever, I submit that Johnny A could be the best living. Danny Gatton was "The Humbler." Johnny A will heve a lot of players scrambling and listners in awe.
Free Music Review: I Can't Get Enough Johnny A!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a big fan of Johnny A ever since hearing this record in 2002. I recently bought his new one (Get Inside) and am now a bigger fan than ever!!Sometime Tuesday Morning is full of amazing guitar performances and compositions. It is fully instrumental, and I agree with another reviewer - this would be ruined with vocals. His guitar work says more than vocal could. I am a guitarist, and I am in awe when I listen to this. His tone and expression blow me away! Get this if you are a fan of guitar, jazz, blues, and just good music!
