Free Music Notes for Sometime Tuesday MorningFree Music Review: Even if your not a guitar enthusiast this CD is awesome Hit: 5 StarsGuitar being the main feature on a CD is not usually my cup of tea but this CD is different. Each song shows how talented Johnny A is and even the covers sound original. I bought this CD in anticipation of hiring Johnny A for a gig and after listening to it I have no hesitation of hiring him. Regardless of your taste in music you will appreciate his talent. I just bought the CD and have already listened to it a 1/2 dozen times and still find things I didn't notice previously. This CD is worth every cent.
Free Music Review: buy scotty anderson's cd on J curve first... Hit: 2 Starsthen you will realize, that sometimes the substance, doesnt live up to the hype..nothing against Johnny A., good guitarist actually, but, if you want to hear the real deal of this style..then spend your money of scotty anderson, who has been praised by musicians and guitar critics world wide.....or just buy his HOT LICKS video, and find out for yourself..sorry johnny, but scotty is miles ahead of this race...i was really let down with this recording.
Free Music Review: Get this man a signature model Hit: 5 StarsI must add to the chorus. Sometime Tuesday Morning is the most original, most enjoyable disc I've purchased in the last ten years. I can't believe it's taken so long to discover Johnny A. It's thanks to avenues like NPR, World Cafe, and independent radio stations (in San Diego that would be the newly reestablished KPRI...kudos) that genuine talent is still rewarded. It's a Clear Channel world, but we don't have to live in it.Anyway, Johnny A. is going to sell alot of Bigsby-equipped Les Pauls and Marshall combo amps. Are you listening Gibson? I want a Johnny A. signature model LP and I want it QUICK! This disc is one of those breakthrough events that send guitarists like me back to the woodshed, reminding us that there are still unexplored worlds of tone, rhythm and sheer musicality. Buy this CD. Don't even hesitate. You can say you were there when....
Free Music Review: A very musical player Hit: 5 StarsJohnny A's playing is a melting pot of guitar culture starting from Chet Atkins, to Duane Eddie, to Jimmie Hendrix to Stevie Ray to Eric Johnson. But Johnny A is himself ! Not just an adept player, but a good writer as well with a killer voodoo vibe to boot. The whole Cd is a successful experiment in good taste, I challenge any guitar god to do the same. David Gillis Award-Winning Guitarist
Free Music Review: New and Exciting Hit: 5 StarsRare is it to find an artist that defies all the comparisons and genre typecasting, but Johnny A. does just that with his release "Sometime Tuesday Morning". It is obvious that Johnny A. has an eclectic taste of music, as this album samples across the boards. He plays what he wants to play. His style is slow and soulful, without wasting notes. And his sound! Nothing sounds a sweet as a clean guitar. Johnny A. doesn't hide behind a wall of distortion, delays or massive overdrives. When he does use effects to crunch it up a bit, it is with style and taste that compliments the music. The thing that disappoints me the most about this album is the fact that it took me so long to discover it. Thanks to my local radio stations "Studio C" program of bringing touring musicians in and recording live cuts, I first heard "Oh Yeah" live (and if you think that the album version is great, try finding this live version). After hearing that, I had to have this album. The only other disappointment is the fact that it's so short, just over 48 minutes of music, but you'll enjoy all of it. This album is full of gems, and you won't be skipping over any tracks. Each song has a slightly different flavor. From the soulful and slow "Wichita Lineman" to the more upbeat "Up In the Attic" Johnny A. knows exactly how to play to stir emotions and feeling. His cover of "Walk Don't Run" is a slowed down swing version of the original surf tune that shows how he can take a song and make it his own. Johnny A. doesn't fill his solos with notes, but says more in between the notes, and although he can play fast, he prefers to keep it slow giving his notes more power. If you love guitar, swing, jazz, country, or just plain old rock, then look no further than this excellent album. Johnny A. is a master of guitar and tone, and proves it to us all on this well-done album.
