What a treat for fans of Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.All the back up singers,musicians,fancy microphones and amplifiers are put aside, and all we get is two legends singing their songs to each other,telling stories of how these songs came about and accompanying themselves with their guitars.
There is a special feeling that comes across.It is as if they were just passing some time alone enjoying the songs that were so near and dear to them and their fans.Although there is clapping and cheers from the audience,one gets the feeling it is a very small group and you also feel you are part of it.There is little new or different about the songs as we have all heard them countless times;but still we never tire of them.What is different is that you get these legends talking about each song and how they came about.This is often done at concerts where they introduce their songs to the audience;but here we hear them telling each other as songwriters and singers about their songs,it's a whole different slant.
This recording was made in 1998.They were about the same age and Johnny,in particular ,seemed to be quite healthy and they were both happy and really enjoying themselves.Little would one expect from this recording,that Johnny's health would deteriorate so rapidely and he would age so quickly and pass away as soon as 2003.However;as to Willie,he continues to write songs peform and is still carrying on 13 years after this recording was made;and let's hope for many yeats to come. Any fan of Johnny or Willie will certainly enjoy and treasure this CD and be glad to own it.
