Free Music Review: A Great Hymns Album!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

"My Mother's Hymn Book" is an intimate collection of hymns performed by the late, great and legendary Man In Black, Johnny Cash.
Recorded during Cash's final recording sessions with producer Rick Rubin, Cash performs 15 of his personal favorite hymns taken directly from his mother's hymn book entirely solo with just him singing and playing guitar.
Johnny's Christian roots come across in huge proportions through the entire disc. Although he was in poor health during the recording of this album, his voice and musical delivery are as powerful as ever. The sparseness of this recording makes the music ever more up-close and personal.
This an album of real and genuine Christian music performed by a true musical patriot. This is definitely a must-have for anyone.

Free Music Review: My Mother's Hymn Book ~ Johnny Cash
Hit: 5 Stars

Johnny Cash was and is an amazing vocalist and artist. This is a very solemn and thoughtworthy release. On this recording Cash sings songs from his mothers hymn book. I shall not be moved and many others are just amazing gospel tracks and Cash with his stupendous vocals make them even better. The comments, anectdotes and tibits about the songs written in the well done book-let are great. The photo on the cover is a picture of Cash holding his mothers hymn book as if he was singing them in a field. The picture of Cash on the back of the book let is very well shot and shows Cash deep in rumination and deep thought. This is a very nice recording of old hymn songs that people that like Cash and gospel will want to have and own.

Free Music Review: A Parting Gift
Hit: 5 Stars

This collection of Cash's songs is absolutely excellent for the initiated and the uninitiated. "He Reached Down for Me" is a personal favorite. These are songs that nutured him through life and gave him the foundation of his faith. The voice is at times faltering and weak and yet here he is singing songs of joy and hope. These are old-time tunes and well-recognized so they may evoke memories in the listener as well. "In The Garden" was a favorite hymn of my own grandmother and was sung at her funeral when she died in '76 at 93 years old. That's history and tradition. Artists like Cash have been care-takers of American musical tradition. Here is a wonderful parting gift.

Free Music Review: The Best Christian Music
Hit: 5 Stars

The best Christian music I have ever heard. I never really liked Christian music because it is so padded and fluffed up with instruments and noise that the lyrics are not clear. My Mother's Hymnbook is a back-to-basics collection of encouraging and uplifting hymns in a crisp, clear and simple style so you can clearly hear the all-important words. If you want to enjoy wallowing in depression and misery for a while, listen to the American Recordings series. But when you're done feeling sorry for yourself and want some hope and a ray of light, then play My Mother's Hymnbook.

Free Music Review: An essential album for believers
Hit: 5 Stars

I have very much enjoyed listening to this album for the last several years and it uplifts me every time I hear Cash singing these beautiful hymns. Recently I have begun singing these hymns with this CD every night before putting my son to bed. I intend to have him remember the passion and beauty of these songs based on hearing Cash's renditions for the rest of his life as his precious childhood memories. Thanks Johnny.
