Free Music Review: A must have!
Hit: 5 Stars

This must be one of the best CDs I have and you will absolutely love it because all the songs are really good that you don't have to skip any of it!

Free Music Review: A Natural Progression
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm a long-time Bon Jovi and Jon Bon Jovi fan, and I admit that I didn't like this album the first time I heard it. It isn't the same stuff we BJ fans are used to. BUT, now I love this album fo the same reasons I didn't like it the first time I heard it. It's mellow, muted, and introspective. It appeals to the adult in me, whereas pre-These Days albums appealed to the teenager in me. Jon grew up, just like the rest of us, and his writing has done something I didn't ever think it could do - improve. This is a very good album; it's worth listening too just to hear "Naked." (Because after all, we girls STILL feel butterflies in our stomachs and picture Jon climbing out of a deep slumber in our beds when he uses that husky speaking voice!)

Free Music Review: Interesting Songs, but Weak Vocally
Hit: 4 Stars

I appreciated what Jon was trying to do on this release (get away from "Bad Medicine" type songs I think), but in doing so he undermined what most of us love about him, his voice. The performance isn't poor, just very toned down from what we're used to. If you like to hear the soaring "Blaze of Glory" tracks or the heart-wrenching "Lie to Me" ballads, you will be somewhat disappointed with "Destination Anywhere." However, the songs are very good. "Janie, Don't You Take Your Love to Town" is my personal favorite. There is a lot to like on this album, but it is not the typical Jon Bon Jovi singing that we are used to.

Free Music Review: Great Album
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a fascinating solo album of Jon Bon Jovi that can easily be ranked up as high as some of Bon Jovi's best albums... His voice is pure, sensual and simply put "just great", the arrangements are wonderful and the lyrics are very special and thoughtful as well.
What an incredible artist/ singer/ songwriter Mr. Jon Bon Jovi truly is.
Great songs! I highly recommend it!

Free Music Review: Different but serves its purpose
Hit: 3 Stars

Destination Anywhere is Jon Bon Jovi's second solo effort, released nearly seven years after its predecessor. The album, at first, wasn't received too well by the press and the Bon Jovi fans, who were obviously expecting a return-to-the-roots kind of an album. However, Jon Bon Jovi had a different vision he wanted to realise. Most of the songs weren't even penned in the hopes of releasing a solo album to begin with; on the contrary, they came to life during Jon Bon Jovi's foray into motion picture (which was a failure in itself) and songs he wrote during his acting career. Eventually, when it turned out that he had enough material, he teamed up with renowned producer Stephen Lironi to finish the final product.

The fact that all the songs were written in different parts of the world, such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia, London, Vienna, Amsterdam, etc. shows that this wasn't to be a real album in the first place. Therefore there are a good number of different producers, sound engineers, lineup, and even a different approach to songwriting to be found here. That said, Jon Bon Jovi did manage to give the album a cohesive feel, despite its varied structure, and while the music isn't all that Bon Jovi-ish, he definitely made a good choice by releasing this album as a solo effort, rather than a BJ rock anthem. The result is an intimate and introspective album that deals with a more meaty subject matter, Jon's admission that he's no longer in his twenties, and a man who's come to terms with his life.

The music here is understandably different than what you'd normally hear on a Bon Jovi release. Lots of synths, loops, programmed drums and different production techniques are blended with Jon's emotional vocal delivery and deeply engaging lyrical work. There aren't many catchy tunes here (and the ones that are meant to be catchy unfortunately don't work), but more low-key songs with experimental attitudes. Songs like "Queen of New Orleans" and "Midnight in Chelsea" have a rather inorganic vibe to them; they are way too modern and alternative sounding for an artist like Jon. Hence, they don't mash too well with the other compositions. However, songs like "Every Word Was a Piece of My Heart" (featuring top-model Helena Christensen on back-ups), "Staring at Your Window with a Suitcase in my Hand" (with great lyrics that go like 'You think you know me because you know my name/ You think you see me 'cause you've seen every line on my face') and "It's Just Me" with a sorrowful guitar piece that blankets the whole composition are really solid. Jon himself plays a good number of instruments, be it the acoustic guitar on "Janie, Don't Take Your Love to Town", the harmonica on the Desmond-Child produced number "Ugly", and even some electric guitar on the title track. Sadly, some of the tracks fall short because of the poorly written programmed drums, weak synths and uninspired choruses like the ones on "Naked" or the 'singles' of this CD. "August 7, 4:15" was written about the death of Jon's manager's child, as I learned recently, which is testimony that the lyrics on this disc are more cerebral than rock anthems (!) like "It's My Life". My European copy contains the demo version of "Cold Hard Heart" as a bonus track. Overall this wasn't really the kind of album I expected from JBJ, but at least it's a personal record with warm melodies and emotional vocals. Destination Anywhere is different and that's what side projects/solo albums are for, not to mention that the intimacy factor involved in this piece easily destroys Bon Jovi's post-These Days albums.
