Free Music Review: One Of The Greatest Trios Of All Time

"Personae" released in 2002 on Bardo Records stands as one of the finest performances from an electric jazz trio in my opinion. There's intensity, sadness, desperation, happiness, and whole wealth of emotions found in this music.
Since I'm a huge Shawn Lane fan, I want to say he was simply one of most amazing guitarist I've ever heard. He was a virtuoso with a vast array of influences and his playing was fast, but unlike many "shredders" he was always tasteful whether it be chord voicings, phrasing, or just his overall guitar tone. He had ideas that seemed like they never ended. He just had creative flow from everything he played. A truly remarkable player and a super nice guy on top of that.
I say "Personae" is this trios best recording because it is. You will not find more inspired performances than these. Every song will leave you breathless.
It's a shame that when most trios get together they make music that's pretty dull and not exciting. Hellborg, Lane, and Sipe were a very unique trio that forged an individual sound. You'll NEVER hear another group like this one again.
I highly recommend this album for Shawn Lane fans and for anyone interested in hearing the intense side of jazz.
