I have listened to Joni's music for close to 30 years now. "Shine" describes perfectly what she does to those who love her music. Having the great benefit of seeing her live in concert 4 times, I can only embrace her new release even more. She is ultimately the hippest and coolest female musician out there. Try listening to her album on a clear dark night while driving around town when the traffic has died town. Look around and listen. Joni has been away from the music business for some time. I've listened to the CD at least twice. Joni is clearly disturbed and important things are said about the destruction of the environment, war, overdevelopment etc. The Music is colorful and ambient. I am now on my fourth listen of this CD and continue to uncover more things. Upon my first listen I was deeply moved by the genius of this modern sage. Joni's soul-opening musical accompaniment delivers the same power as her engagingly insightful lyrics. I seldom take the time to "review" a c.d., but I wanted to put out the word: "Shine" will illuminate the dark corners of your soul. I strongly encourage you to buy this c.d. and savor every note -every word. This gal is in a class by herself. We are all very lucky to be here during the making of her work. The future generations will immortalize her. This cd is just wildly sensitive and surprisingly hopeful, cloked in realistic views of what we are doing to ourselves and our planet. The hypnotizing music!...cannot get these melodies of my head. Sing softly and carry a big stick, don't call me on my cell phone, and breathe because she's back! The best thing I can recognize about this album is she's switched gears from pissed off into a gratitude mode. This fares well for long time fans.
