Free Music Review: She's Back!
Hit: 5 Stars

After nearly a decade of re-mixes and re-hashes Joni is back with an album of all new material. This album picks up where "Turbulent Indigo" left off. She has returned to darker lyrics and natural instrumentation; both missing on "Taming the Tiger," the chronological follow up to the Grammy winning "Turbulent Indigo."

I am just grateful to hear Joni again. That alone was worth the price of the C.D. I am happy to say this material, as well as Joni's voice, are still magical. Artists half her age rarely shine this bright. Beyond that, I will not judge perfection.

My only concern? Will we have to wait another ten years to hear from her again?

Free Music Review: This album shines its light on listeners..
Hit: 5 Stars

Although a huge Joni Mitchell fan years ago..while in college and years after, I hadn't listened to her music for a long time.. until a recent tribute album came my way. That set the stage for "Shine" which I purchased with pretty much blind faith. This album grabbed me from the first listen. There are some sweet melodies that pack a visceral punch and soften and humanize her message. It is an extremely intimate collection of words and music. It feels optimistic and she sounds grounded and heartfull. The focus of the songs resonates with our times and our age. I listen to this album daily and find it just keeps getting better. I strongly recommend it.

Free Music Review: Gratitude
Hit: 5 Stars

I find this new work of Joni's emotionally stunning, Both in its jazz infused music and its lyrics. Some of the reviewers don't like what they see as a "preachy" take on the condition of our culture and our planet. But she is speaking the truth. Her tone is weary but underneath there is hope as expressed in "If."

For me this work has a definite Buddhist flavor. The ability to see reality, accept it, but continue to work to correct the ills that can be corrected comes across strongly. I am glad she has returned with an offering that encourages us to soften our hearts and show compassion both for ourselves and for our planet Earth. Thank you Joni!

Free Music Review: Falling in Love with Joni Mitchell (again)
Hit: 5 Stars

I first fell in love with Joni Mitchell as a young man when I listened to the album "Blue." A long romance continued over the years with "Court & Spark;" it was stretched with "Mingus," stabilized with "Hejira, Wild Things Run Fast" and many others. After "Night Ride Home" I didn't think she could do any better and the romance faded a just a little over the past few years.
Falling in love again with Joni is a great feeling as the romance has now been rekindled by "Shine." The more I listen, the richer it gets. Thank you Joni, we needed this. It's time to get off our butts, get our heads out of the sand, wake up, and do what we know we need to do.

Free Music Review: Joni Mitchell returns.....
Hit: 5 Stars

I'll keep this review very simple. Long time Mitchell fan and this one
doesn't dissapoint. Its great to hear Joni play so much piano again, she
means business on these recordings. Passionate, haunting and sad in parts, she hasn't
lost her humor and bite and her singing is deeply felt. Another of Mitchell's
excellent recordings over the years and a welcome return of a true
pioneer of the singer/songwriter generation. "If I had a heart", "IF",
"Night of the Iguana", "Hana", "Bad dreams" are some of the many highlights. This one makes you think without turning you off, its a
perfect mixture of message and music.
