Free Music Notes for Jordin SparksFree Music Review: Finally Growing On Me Hit: 4 StarsI have an affinity for all music and always listen with open ears. I am one of those people who loves to hate American Idol, but I dare someone to go in my collection and not find a lot of idol discs. Theres the fair share of sub par stuff (Blake Lewis, Taylor Hicks) and the first rate (Fantasia, Katherine McPhee) I have a different opinion I believe than most people have and thats why this review is a while in the making. I had to give this record a listen more than a few times. I am still not into a few songs, but I think the time is right for me to say what I feel about it. Song for song here I go...
1 - Tattoo - I never liked this track, still don't like it...Sick of the Irreplaceable knock offs. I never liked it the first time Beyonce uttered to the left to the left. Why do I want to hear the same song from Jordin Sparks. Same thing goes for that inane Chris Brown track With You. They all sound identical.
2- One Step At A Time - Cute track with that upbeat believe in yourself style that's enjoyable and very reassuring to young people. I like this one because it has a nice message
3- No Air - Blows me away every time I hear it. So sublime and beautifully crafted. These producers handled two talented young vocalists beautifully.
4- Freeze - Was originally the only song I dug on the record. This has potential and is haunting but completely danceable. Freeze a moment with someone on the dancefloor with this one...Good track
5- Shy Boy - I Wish people would get off of this song. Easily the ultimate highlight of the record. A club thumper with a real hook and beautifully understated vocals. I don't care what anyone says, this is the highlight...end of discussion.
6- Now You Tell Me - A boring MOR Slice of old lady pop music. Something Celine Dion should be singing (Instead of that horrendous mess she calls an album "Taking Chances" UGH!) Not well suited for a young girl like Jordin.
7- Next To You - A Cute little gem of a slow jam. Perfect teen puppy love fodder.
8- Just For The Record - Same goes for this track. Cute! Love the whistling and stuff. Very fun, very different and very young person oriented.
9- Permanent Monday - A nice ballad, but is kind of more oriented for another singer. Carrie Underwood maybe. Didn't really want to hear country out of Jordin, but a decent song in it's own right, because it tries so hard.
10- Young & In Love - The 3rd and final uptempo track on the album. A fun throwback to 1983. Takes me back to my favorite era of music...the 1980's, when music was synthetic but still had meaning and was still a lot of fun to listen to! Good one
11- See My Side - Another haunting ballad. Simple electronic oriented and beautiful. Is sonically and vocally brilliant. A definite highlight
12- God Loves Ugly - But He doesn't like this song. Boring. Very meandering and well meaning, but ultimately doesn't fit here
13- This Is My Now - Still a bad song without a TV audience praising it. Blah subject matter and arrangement...eh...
Overall Thoughts - This is about 3/4 of a good album...but because Sparks is determined and well deserving of her win, I'm happy to report that I Recommend this work. And I wish people would give Shy Boy another listen. It's Amazing. Currently is the highest played track on my iPod. But enough...just listen and form your own opinion. Hopefully mine is helpful you all
Peace and Namaste!
Free Music Review: jordin Hit: 5 StarsGreat cd. I loved her on American Idol and was looking forward to her cd. She didn't disappiont me.
Free Music Review: Great voice -- But songs have no depth... Hit: 3 StarsThis album is from the WINNER?!? I really, really wanted to like this CD...I'm so dissappointed. So why 3 stars? Because I couldn't figure out how to give 2.5 The songs are very shallow and forgettable. Much of it is stuff you hear and never remember -- I definitely think it's for a Jr. High school crowd, but Jordin has much more potential. I've listened to the album several times and feel like I've given it a fair chance. Some of the music is downright annoying. Oddly enough I think my favorite song is "Permanent Monday". I'd say pass on this album and buy Katherine McPhee's instead. It's a much better showing.
Free Music Review: Jordin releases a solid debut Hit: 4 StarsJordin Sparks is a young and blossoming artist. Her first single "Tattoo" was very successful, so I decided to check out her CD. This is a terrific album from someone very new to the recording industry. She travels from melodic and soothing with "No Air" and "Next to You" to young and refreshing in "One Step At A Time" and "Young and In Love". Several songs could be instant hits on Adult Contemporary stations such as "Now You Tell Me" or "Permanent Monday"(a song in which Jordin sings with such maturity you wouldn't know she was so young). Despite a few lapses in material on the latter end of the record, this album is generally a solid debut for Jordin Sparks. I will be interested in seeing her grow as an artist; she gets a little more credit because of her age.
Free Music Review: Love her voice Hit: 4 StarsAs an avid Jordan Sparks fan on Idol, I eagerly awaited her first album. Her voice is always spot-on, and for the most part I really enjoy her singing. Some of the songs aren't all that great, but her voice and personality carry over into all the songs. Can't wait to see what she does with some better material.
