Free Music Notes for José Carreras: The Golden YearsFree Music Review: Outstanding! Hit: 5 Stars
While this CD has many tracks made available by Philips previously, it also has a few rarities, like the evergreen beautiful Tosti songs and a few early opera arias. This CD shows Carreras in top form, as a number one (yes, number one) tenor in the world and as an exceptional communicator. Unlike the previous "reviewer", those who follow Jose's career know that his voice is coming back after his death-defying struggle with leukemia. The recent performances of "Sly" at Washington Opera and numerous recital appearances testify to that. It is a privilege to live at this time and to hear him sing. To hear this CD recorded in his golden prime is nothing short of divine. Each aria or song is magnificent. If only Philips, EMI, and DG could collaborate and issue a compilation of other essential Carreras roles, such as Radames, Alvaro, and Don Carlos, the listener would have a more complete picture of this incredible Artist.
Free Music Review: Moving voice Hit: 5 Stars
I have never liked the three tenors, never liked famous people, but Carreras convinced me that you can be popular and good. He is my favorite among the three tenors. Pavarotti has no feeling, Domingo pretends passion, only Carreras is true to himself. He has a moving voice that can become as powerful as any other great tenor.I absolutely love his Puccini's "Che gelida manina", his Tosca's "Recondita armonia", and especially his thrilling "Di quella pira" by Verdi. I have heard a lot of tenors singing these famous arias, but Carreras seems to be the most touching and remarkable of them all. Yes, you can see his naked soul when you hear him.
Free Music Review: Beautiful and Classic Carreras Hit: 5 Stars
This is my favorite Carreras album. Many of the operatic songs were recorded in the late 1970's. They include many favorites, such as "E lucevan le stelle" and "Recondita harmonia." Others, such as "Core 'ngrato" and "Torna a Surriento" were from the 1980's, but are just as lovely. Carreras also includes some songs in English, such as "Be My love" and "Memory" (from "Cats"). I find his accented English to be very romantic and appealing. He sings with great feeling, making the songs seem special and meaningful. This is a very romantic album, a wonderful compilation of many "operatic" favorites sung with prowess and passion.
Free Music Review: Carrera in the younger years was great Hit: 5 Stars
Jose Carreras' voice did change drastically as he got older, it is now horrible and I wish he would stop embarrasing himself pubically by singing. I can't say if his voice has failed him because of taking on bigger roles, but after his fight with cancer his voice was never the same. He was treated right here in Seattle, while he retained his life the poor man never got his voice back to what it had been before the cancer. But this CD captures Jose at some of the best singing years of his life. The CD is exciting and beautiful.
Free Music Review: Carreras: A Great Star Hit: 5 Stars
I saw Jose Carreras in 1980 at Carnegie Hall. His voice thundered in all the theater. Every corner was touched by its power and beauty. This CD has the capacity to remind me of the great voice that Carreras had. I enjoyed every aria and song. I recommend it, to young people and to others whose only reference to Carreras is only from the Three Tenors version. To them, go ahead and hear the great voice that this tenor had and then talk about comparisons.
