Free Music Review: Music at its best!

To describe this CD, only one word comes to mind: amazing. Being familiar with Josh's first album, the growth in his already extraordinary voice is more than evident to me on "Closer." He challenges himself with higher notes and more powerful melodies, along with more sensitive and seductive ballads - and does it all with supreme skill and grace. To speak the truth, I am not a huge opera fan, but Josh's voice is so clear and beautiful that you cannot help but marvel at it. Josh adds a modern edge to classical-sounding pieces, with contemporary beats and innovative orchestral arrangements. While this album obviously leans more into a more edgy, modern-pop feel with songs like "Never Let Go" and "My Confession," "Closer" certainly does not lack Josh's trademark tender ballads. His velvet voice soothes the soul on romantic tracks like "Hymne A L'Amour" and the magnificent "Mi Mancherai," featuring talented violinist Joshua Bell. And while about half the CD is in a foreign language (either in Italian, French, or Spanish), the English songs are truly breathtaking, with touching lyrics and flowing melodies. On "Closer," Josh adds to his already promising potential by showcasing his songwriting talent, composing the music for "Per Te" and the lyrics on the moving "Remember When It Rained" (where he also plays the piano) and "Never Let Go." Overall, Josh straddles the pop-classical-opera line with captivating ease and beauty. This is truly a wonderful album, and it leaves the listener with an insight into the amazing potential of this extremely talented young artist.Free Music Review: Fantastic!! This CD, along with his first CD, is fantastic. Please, if you're considering getting this CD, get it. It's great. I'm not exactly sure what guys like "B.Rall" or "Maestro Mike" are listening to. But it can't be this.
If they knew anything about opera, they'd realize that what Josh is singing is not opera, but songs. Romantic songs. So, do not compare him to opera singers. He has never claimed to be an opera tenor, nor should he. He does not sing quite as high as a tenor, but he actually has much more range. Most tenors cannot sing as low as him, as they shouldn't have to. Although there are some tenors that you can tell who it is when they sing(Pavarotti). Most pretty much sound the same, at least the good ones do. Since the object of must classical music is to perform the music as close to how Verdi or Puccini or whoever originally wanted it performed, if a tenor sounds drastically different than how a tenor is "supposed" to sound, he's not performing the way he should. Since Josh, I assume, has not been classically trained, or at least as much as the tenor "greats" have been, I'm sure he would sing opera miserably.
But, unlike most opera singers, Josh really sounds unique. His voice is beautiful and very strong. And he sings romantic songs about as well as I've ever heard. I can tell his voice right away.
In short, buy this CD. It's unfair to compare him to opera singers or compare opera singers to him. It's unfair for both, since it's totally different. Carreras, Pavarotti, and Domingo are great in their own right, for what they do. As it Josh.

Free Music Review: He took my breath away.....

I just saw Josh Groban in concert, here in Vancouver, and I felt compelled to support him in any way possible. His performance was incredible, actually I don't think I can find the word to describe it exactly. Believe it or not his voice is better LIVE!!!! And I'm not saying that he sounds bad on CD, he sounds amazing in this CD but his vocals are so strong that at the concert you sense the power vibrate within you. It was like he was right beside me, amazing! This CD is fantastic, I've listened to it non-stop in preparation for the concert tonight, and I never got sick of it. His next single, and my favorite song "Remember when it rained" (co-wrote by Groban himself) is such a moving song, all his songs are, but this one touches a special place in my heart. Also, this CD, as well as new songs, is filled with the favorites, such as the Italian love song "Caruso". Let me tell you, one of the best of the many, many who have sung it. You cannot be a romantic and not love this song. It was neat because at the concert he translated the words to the verses, and it just re-enforced what masterpiece that song really is. Many people find him bland for singing stereotypical operatic songs, but these people fail to hear the words or the fabulous talented ensemble Groban has put together. His sound is fresh, because it's not just violin, it's fantastic drumming, percussion, piano, guitar and bass. There are many who can appreciate this such beautiful artistic compellation. Besides many of the songs are new songs. What an unforgettable experience, now to be revisited every time I reach for this CD.Free Music Review: Absolutely Astonishingly Beautiful

#13 "Never Let Go" - "And we are handed these moments forever" is stunningly futuristic, courtesy of the fabulous Deep Forest's amazing 21st Century sound, with their trademark killer-mind- candy FX. Josh's perfect vibrato is silken in this amazing dance. I would love a whole CD of music like this from Josh with other futuristic artists.#2 "My Confession" is deeply emotive. "I am captured by your beauty, your unassuming grace", Josh's brilliant, shimmering voice inspires surrender to intense feelings of love. The words are powerful and heartwrenching.
#5 "When you say you love me" reaches into day dreams and evokes immense surges of feelings. Josh's soaring, crystalline voice echos with haunting passion.
#8 "Broken Vow" reaches into one's secrets and is deeply moving.
#10 "Remember when it rained" is an unbearably beautiful song. His voice is gentle and soothing yet majestic and inspiring in his styling of this song. This is my favorite because of the sweetness of his invitation to explore memories again.
#12 "You raise me up". I love the celtic sound with the wailing violins and suspended strings. The gorgeous and powerful orchestration supports this superb artist's perfect voice. Again, the words are exquisite and inspiring. Oscar Winner David Foster's production of this artist is outstanding.
I highly recommend his DVD "Josh Groban in Concert". It is a magical experience to watch such a beautiful young man sing like an angel in four languages as he does on this exqusite CD.
Free Music Review: Passionate and romantic!

Love it, Love it, Love it! These songs are so romantic and passionate. Buy this if you're looking for something to take you away from the hum drum world and totally immerse you in a world of passion. Even though some songs are in other languages you don't really have to know what he's saying to appreciate the passion because singing about love and love in any language transcends words. It just hits you deep in your soul. For example, "Si Volvieras a Mi", is a beautifully simple song about love lost and the yearning to get it back. He's questioning how he's going to live without her, describing the different ways how this love is like. The Spanish words for this song are simply so exquisitely passionate, that actually, the translation in English is somewhat lacking. But if you must have translations start by going to his website. There on the message board you can ask anyone how to find the translations. The English song like, "Remember When It Rained", is simply powerful! I saw him in concert and this song brought down the house! He sang and played the piano and totally gave of himself!!! This is a guy who doesn't have to lipsink!! It's just so refreshing that this 23 yr.old guy can have this great voice, and sing passionately about love without being dirty and vulgar like current music trends. So if you have a yearning for some passion to fill your soul, buy this! When you get it, listen to this cd somewhere by yourself and lay down and close your eyes and let his singing and music just carry you away on your own personal journey!!!
