Free Music Notes for NoelFree Music Review: Christmas has come early Hit: 5 Stars
Just when I had given up on Josh Groban after his less than spectacular album AWAKE, Josh comes back with an album and reminds me why I fell in love with his music in the beginning. NOEL is Josh's long awaited Christmas album. Truth be told I am not a big buyer of Christmas albums but Josh Groban is one of the few select artists who I would want to see him put out a Christmas album. NOEL is filled with classic Christmas carols that I know and love. Personally I think the sogns that Josh sings with other artists (except for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on "O Come All Ye Faithfull") was unnecessary. Faith Hill and Brian McKnight ruined the songs that they sang on with Josh. I wasn't too keen on the arrangement for "Silent Night". It would have sounded even better with Josh singing acapella or at least minimal organ. Asides from that minor quibble, I enjoyed listening to NOEL. Josh's rich baritone voice sounds as good as it sounded since his first album, especially on "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus". Christmas has come early for me with Josh's new Christmas album. It is a definite must have for Josh Groban fans.
Free Music Review: LOVED IT - FROM BEGINNINGTO END! Hit: 5 Stars
I had goosebumps listening to many of the songs on this CD. From the first song, where we are all treated to the almost-angelic voice of Josh Groban, accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra, to the finale with the Mormon Tabernacular Choir, this Christmas CD reminds me of what Christmas is all about. His duet with Brian McKnight is simply one of the most beautiful blending of voices I've heard. I play that song over and over again, and it is like unwrapping a treasured gift every time I hear it. His duet with Faith Hill is also wonderful. Song #6, which will be played at Thanksgiving this year, starts the holiday season off in a fantastic way. I didn't want the CD to end. It's in my car, so I can listen to it to and from work, and on my way to shop for Christmas. Definitely adds to the holiday spirit. Wish he could also have added "Believe" and a few lighter Christmas songs to add more of a spirit of cheer, but LOVED this CD - so much so that I've bought a bunch more to give as EARLY Christmas gifts - to enrich the Christmas season for family and friends too!
Free Music Review: My Wait For A Christmas Album is Over Hit: 5 Stars
I love this CD! I know I will be repeating a few things others have said, but here goes. Josh's voice is unbelievable! I have loved him since the first time I heard him. He is the only artist who's CD I have to buy the day it comes out. This was no exception. Love it! Love it! Love it! There are only two things that could have made it better. One, to include "O Holy Night", which is my favorite Christmas song. His is THE BEST cover of that song, I've heard - ever.
Two, to not have sung "The First Noel" with Faith Hill. I love Josh's part of this song, and wish he had sung it alone, or maybe with someone like Martina McBride. To pair such an exquisite voice as Josh's is, with a totally ordinary voice, is not doing justice to him. She is o.k. when singing her own songs, but she doesn't have the voice to improve previously recorded material. She soured me on her cover capabilities when she completely butchered "Open Arms" by Journey, at a Tim MacGraw concert I was at.
But back to "Noel", a must have for any Josh fan!! Love it! Go get it today!
Free Music Review: Josh Groban "Noel" Hit: 5 Stars
Josh Groban took his time in creating a Christmas CD and it was worth the wait! If you can have only one Christmas CD, THIS IS THE ONE! I even have friends who do not celebrate Christmas and they love this CD. It is full of beautiful melodies, enchanting musicianship and of course Josh's magnificent voice at its vocal best. There are songs in English, Italian and French; some are accompanied by artists such as Faith Hill, Brian McKnight, and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir!
The songs are all traditional holiday favorites, with the exception of one original Thanksgiving song. No commercialism here, Santa Claus is not the focus of this music. The beauty of the holiday shines through the crystaline notes, and the velvet tones of Josh's voice. It is so joyful, I still listen to it in May!
Spoiler Alert- Josh's version of "I'll be Home for Christmas" includes the voices of American Soldiers serving overseas talking to their families, it makes me cry every time I hear it!
It's no wonder it was the highest selling Christmas recording ever!
Free Music Review: Groban Sings With A Refreshing New Sound! Hit: 5 Stars
Josh Groban brings a glorious sound to this Christmas Album "NOEL". Josh sings with a deep rich tone and as a result the entire selection of songs have deep felt compassion and personal meaning. The orchestrations are generally well suited but I feel that there could be less added voicing as Josh has enough musical character to carry the entire album by himself. "Thankful" is absolutely marvellous and speaks to each and everyone of us! Josh has a naturally big sound and allows an element of expansive passion throughout. "What Child Is This" has a folkish character which I find to be most imaginative.
Josh is also a very musical pianist and this aspect is heard throughout, but especially in "Panis Angelicus" which I feel is the deepest felt and most moving of all!
Like Paul Potts, although with a completely opposite sound, Josh Groban will become a huge success with an amazing career ahead of him! This a must have for Christmas every year!
