Free Music Notes for Noel

Free Music Review: Great for what it is, but still disappointed
Hit: 5 Stars

As at least one other reviewer has done, I didn't even bother reading the track list on the bck of this CD before tossing it into my cart. I have been wanting this CD for some time, ever since I heard Groban's "O Holy Night" on the radio, to buy this CD. I was terribly disappointed to discover the track wasn't included on the album. I am pretty bitter about the exclusion since that was the biggest reason for me buying the CD, but I will give it 5 stars for the material actually on it. It is a wonderful CD and Groban sings exquisitely. It was my fault that I didn't look at the track list, but I know for certain I am not the only one who has made that mistake. It really makes no sense that "O Holy Night" wouldn't be on the CD. This is just a little warning for those interested in purchasing "Noel." It is still a great album, but if you're really wanting "O Holy Night" or "Believe," for that matter, you won't find them here.

Free Music Review: NOW I feel the Christmas spirit!
Hit: 5 Stars

The title of my review is not entirely true, but after listening to this entire CD, I would like to see him get right back into the studio and crank out another Christmas CD. His voice, as always, is the purest silk, and his versions of these Christmas favorites are now my favorite renditions.

The CD has been on Billboard's charts for only 8 or 9 weeks (Billboard disagrees with itself as to how long it's been on the charts - odd), yet it has already sold more than two million copies, and has been the #1 selling CD for at least 2 weeks. I can't remember when a Christmas CD has sold so well, or been #1. His last CD of original music didn't hit #1, and certainly didn't reach platinum status quite so quickly, so this is truly impressive.

I think that even music lovers who don't care for Groban would find this to their liking. Assuming, of course, that they like Christmas songs. <grin>

Free Music Review: A must-buy Christmas CD
Hit: 5 Stars

Josh Groban's voice, David Foster's arrangements, and Bill Ross's orchestrations are married perfectly on this album. I really appreciate that the traditional carols chosen for Noel were recorded without one hackneyed note in them -- amazingly fresh renditions of music that has been in our culture for decades. I, for one, think "The First Noel" is one of the best tracks. The gospel beat it segues into after a traditional intro is totally joyful and exuberant, and I disagree with the listeners who think Faith Hill sounds screechy and doesn't blend well with Josh. "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" is a particularly refreshing new arrangement. "Little Drummer Boy" is destined to be a classic played over and over by radio stations. In fact, there isn't a single track that is a dog, in my opinion. Love 'em all!!

Very, very worth much more than the price. Buy it, and see for yourselves!

Free Music Review: Josh Respects the Music
Hit: 5 Stars

What Josh Groban has done with this album makes me respect him even more although I have a few albums of his. When I hear the tracks from this album, "Noel", I get the sense he understands not to overwhelm the listener. He does make many of these pieces his own with his wonderful voice, but I can hear the respect he has for the material. I love this album, but here are the signature tracks I love the most. They are "Little Drummer Boy", "What Child Is This?", and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear". They clearly are memorable to listen to repetitively. My heart soars on the last note from the final track "O Come All Ye Faithful". It ended with a wonderful crescendo. I strongly recommend this album for anyone who wants a bit of ear candy. It is great timing to have so much talent from this man when much of the music of today is noise to me. What a treat!

Free Music Review: My favorite Christmas CD!
Hit: 5 Stars

Josh Groban has the most expressive, crystal clear voice in popular music, and it is displayed to its most beautiful extent in this collection of Christmas songs. I bought this CD last year and it has already been in my car for this holiday season since Halloween!

"Angels We Have Heard on High" with Brian McKnight was a wonderful surprise-- I had never heard this version before and it is a beautiful duet between the two of them.

This CD is a great compilation that could easily be played at a holiday dinner party or just on your iPod. The songs are relaxing, but without falling into the trap of getting too "jazzy" and sounding like the music they play in department stores. The only thing missing on the CD is "O Holy Night," his much-touted new Christmas classic, but that's available on the Josh Groban Live in Concert CD.
