Free Music Notes for Heart & SoulFree Music Review: should be in every collection Hit: 5 Stars
I do not have anything to say about Joy Division that previous reviewers have already said with regard to their cutting-edge genius and ability to depict the gray areas of life that no other musical collective has ever been able to do, in my opinion. Buy this four-disc set. Save your money and buy it. It will be the greatest musical investment of your entire life. And by the way, here's a theory I just thought of today: With regard to the "Closer" song, "A Means to an End," I believe that it is NOT autobiographical (as some think all Joy Division's songs are directly related to the late Ian Curtis). Rather, I believe that it is a song about Ceasar and Brutus. Ian was obsessed with the Romans and was a voracious reader when it came to Roman history, so perhaps that song is reminiscent of the classic tragedy. Ceasar put his trust in Brutus and Brutus failed him, but Joy Division has not and will not ever fail me.
Free Music Review: Five Stars. (period) Hit: 5 Stars
Have you heard a Joy Division song and are curious to hear more? If you are drawn to one song, or to the mystery of this band alone, don't waste your time buying individual Joy Division cds. Buy this set. Listen to it, you will like it. Listen to it again, you will love it. Listen again... and get lost in Ian's world... a world frightfully like your own. This band has influenced so much in so short of a career it is astonishing. Strip away the glam, the fluff, and the glitter and you are left with Joy Division - a menacing, powerhouse band that can level you with a note and kill you with a word. There is no faking this kind of music. This band is not a group of guys trying to be like something else, this is gut honest, intense music - a glimpse into the "heart and soul" of a man that approached the edge and didnt just take a peek - he walked right off. R.I.P., Ian Curtis
Free Music Review: The Joy In Our Division Hit: 5 Stars
I'm going to keep this short and simple:
"Heart and Soul" is essential. i don't care how expensive it is. It is worth every penny. Joy Division isn't only one of the most influential bands of all time(hello Interpol), but they are also one of the best. I don't care if you're a goth, a punk, an emo kid, whatever group you choose yo assoiciate yourself with. Joy Division is better than almost any band ever, and "Heart and Soul" displays that perfectly, from the rawer, more aggresive Warsaw era stuff to the more polished "Love Will Tear Us Apart". This is simply brilliant.
I give five stars very reluctantly to anything, but this collection deserves it. Even their outtakes are essential.
Thank you.
Free Music Review: How to do a boxed set! Hit: 5 Stars
I'd been wanting to get some Joy Divison CDs to replace my tapes and LPs for a long time, so when this came along, it was too great to pass up. Basically, for a reasonable price, you get the band's entire (or just about entire) recorded output in top sound quality. This is my idea of what is possible with a box set. This, Tom Petty's "Playback", the new "Complete" Simon and Garfunkle box--- all great examples of how a realistically priced set can provide fans with a definitive version of a good chunk of a band's catalog, and also appeal to newcomers. The music of course is fantastic. Want to hear where Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Bjork, etc. got a lot of thier ideas? Well, listen up...
Free Music Review: Buy this and you'll never need anything else Hit: 5 Stars
This album is haunting and if we face facts it is a very miserable and depressing music to listen to. But if you are a fan this is essential only if it happens that all your old CDs/records are scratched to death. What you have here is a loving cherished box set which you can tell has been delved into deeply by those involved ( something that reports say haven't been in the New Order boxset )This is the music you'll play when you're in a bad mood because it will give you some comfort but I stress it probably has to be a last resort because it may cause some terrible problems. And whatever you do don't listen to them all at once. You might be nearly dead by the time it's finished Just a warning
