if you are going to buy records as you buy wine (i.e. by the cover), you may miss one of the best Spanish albums ever made. Spanish-Cuban, I'd rather say. Even though this album was not recorded at the legendary Egrem studio in La Havana, it shows the best Juan Perro into Cuban music. Santiago -Juan Perro- reveals his most mature 'mestizo' capabilities in this recording. Anyone who is serious into Spanish and Cuban music must own this album. The tenderness of tunes as 'Senora del Mar' and the striking Antillian rythm of 'Flor de Granado' makes this record a must one. Even though this album has deep roots into Cuban music, there is a marvelous flashback into Radio Futura's rock and roll. The revamped version of 'Noche de fuego' (originally written by Santiago and recorded in a 'working' version by Radio Futura found in the album 'Rarezas' -that Amazon has not available-), demonstrates the big talent that Juan Perro had even in his early days as songwriter. Without trying to withdraw the merit of previous (just try 'Raices al viento' in order to find a very fine sample of great talent and musicianship) and future recordings of Juan Perro (with this talented guy, the best is yet to come) this is the best album of his that includes the power of his rock and roll roots and his quest for broader music horizons into Cuban music. Do not miss the marvelous work of the 'Juan Perro band', John Parson's guitar is just breathtaking, but particular attention deserves Francisco Amat playing the Cuban 'tres' guitar.
