Free Music Notes for Nostradamus (Deluxe Edition)

Free Music Review: An epic Work : Masterful in all Respects
Hit: 5 Stars

The Latest work by JUDAS PRIEST is superb in terms of the vocals, the music, and the packaging. It is clearly a concept album that in my view has only one similar album that you can compare it with, which was done by a band in a different genre ( YES, the album I have in mind is TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS).The points in common are that you have Unique vocalists, and musicians who are masters at what they play. Anyway, jettison the comparison.
JUDAS PRIEST stand alone in the Hard rock world as being brilliant musicians, and consistently hard workers who have fans that stick to the PRIEST like few band fans do. In my view there are few bands that can deserve that kind of loyalty in hard rock. And JUDAS PRIEST have produced a work that shows they can play extremely, extraordinarily well. There is not a weak track on the album.
The Package I bought was the the "middle" edition, where the Book has the CDs in the front ( disc 1 ) and in the back ( disc 2). The Book is very well done. Just a word of caution, if you have either sweaty hands at the time you look at the book, or someone who wants to look at this book with any kind of gunk on their hands, try and avoid it: this is a collectors book that needs careful handling. If you can afford the Vinyl edition ( as in Vinyl record version) then you should buy that. Whilst I am tremendously happy with the NOSTRADAMUS work, I am also happy with the edition I bought. This is a great year for Rock releases, and I do mean in the classic, best quality sense.

Free Music Review: jaw-dropping masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

If you keep an open mind, this can be one of the most enjoyable collection of songs released by any "metal" group in recent years. Being a Priest fan since 1980, I had the typical WTF reaction when listening to the album for the first time. I was expecting much of the CD to sound like the Nostradamus single, which is a combination of Hellrider & Ram it Down. However, the CD consists mostly of beautifully crafted songs which introduce you, and build up to more emotionally charged tracks. If you really listen to the music, you will enjoy Nostradamus more and more with each play. While it is not a traditional "straight forward metal" priest CD, it is different, and a needed breath of fresh air. Much more enjoyable than most of priest's recent catalog, and much better than the stale recent offerings by groups like Def Leppard or Dokken. The musicianship is outstanding, and Ian Hill can actually heard on many of the tracks!

Best Tracks -
Pestilence and Plague - great keyboard/synth accompaniment in the chorus. Full of emotion and very grand sounding.

Persecution - One of the few metal songs; Halford's rant in the middle of song reminiscent of "free wheel burning"

Alone - Acoustic guitar and synthesizer track, accompanied by Halford's emotional, multi-tracked vocals. This is the only song where he sings ahigh note.

For a good comparison, listen to "Framing Armageddon" by Iced Earth.

Free Music Review: Priest has produced a neo-classical metal masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

The metal gods Judas Priest have outdone themselves in their latest release, an ambitious 2 disc opera about Nostradamus. As other reviews have mentioned, the first time you hear this album there is a certain WTF? aspect of it. But once you listen a couple times, you can figure out what Priest has done and they should get kudos for it. This is definitely not a disc of filler and regurgitated old riffs. Priest put a lot of thought, effort, and tender loving care into the album. As Priest have occasionally released albums in their catalog that capture a certain metal sub-genre (e.g., Painkiller's thrash), Priest have released an epic neo-classical metal album in Nostradamus. Think Yngwie Malmsteen crossed with Operation Mindcrime. There are individual cuts here that are as good as anything Priest has ever done (e.g., Persecution). But the album needs to really be listened to in a single block of time to truly appreciate it. Halford's voice is awesome, if somewhat restrained (I understand they are going to tour the album so I understand why he would pace himeself). The production is beautiful and multi-layered. The music is very melodic, with recurring themes, and with tidbits of Italian thrown in for good measure. The guitar work is impressive, with lots of guitar synths to color the music. Not the best Priest album, but right up there in the pantheon of great Priest albums.

Free Music Review: Pleasant Shocker in Gloomtown
Hit: 5 Stars

I fling myself firmly onto the side of the fence with those that were somewhat shocked and surprised by the newest Judas Priest release Nostradamus but nonetheless blown away by the magnificence of this effort. As all performers mature, so should their music and JP is proving to be no different. This release speaks volumes to their creativity and I for one think it's about time they thought outside of the box and expanded their range. IMHO, there's plenty of guitars and full-on rockers but it's mixed with a grandiose assortment of power from all angles...keyboard majestry, symphonic interludes and of course, the over-the-top vocal prowess of Rob Halford.

My first listen to this (self-incrimination to follow) was from a borrowed bit-torrent download and at first, I thought I may have been fooled by my friend and given a local band or some obscure Brit prog-metal effort but it didn't take long to realize that only Halford sings that way...it was pure Judas Priest but in a form I wasn't quite ready to mind-meld with. It didn't take long however to become assimilated. Standout cuts to me so far are the title track Nostradamus and Alone...I'm sure more will follow.

Open your mind, don't listen to the naysayers.....get this release! I think I'm going to pick up the vinyl versions just to get that old school feeling again.

Free Music Review: A Judas Priest masterpiece !!
Hit: 5 Stars

The new Judas Priest album Nostradamus is a masterpiece !! As it has been said quite a few times now, it's not your typical metal headbanging album... But JP are known for evolving from one album to another, and that's exactly what they did here. Having said that, this album has quite a few great metal moments with songs such as Persecution, Pestilence & Plague with its chorus snug in italian or the now famous Nostradamus, but most of the songs are awesome mid-tempos... The beginning of the album is really impressive with Prophecies, Revelations, then the grandiloquent War, which makes you feel as if you were in the middle of a battle field. My personal favourite, Death, comes next and sees JP making an almost Doom song... There are a lot of very beautiful and full of emotion prelude or songs such as Exiled, Alone which are sung by a Rob Halford in top of his form, even if he doesn't sing in such a high register as before.

Even if it's 1H40 long, you can't help yourself to listen to this piece again and again, and hear a lot of new things each time !! One thing is sure, JP just made a perfect concept album, with great writing, solos, lyrics and the voice of the Metal God !!
