Free Music Notes for Nostradamus (Deluxe Edition)Free Music Review: 100% Pure Metal Alchemy Hit: 5 Stars
This is, by far, the best Priest album that I've heard. And I've heard damn near all of 'em! I noticed many stylistic choices reminiscent of their 70's sound. The beauty and sorrow of the bands' early work is clearly present, the operatic vocals, the triumphant guitar work and driving bass and drums all here. Some of the 80's and 90's sounds show up, but not enough to distract from the overall concept being presented in the material. What I find the most fascinating about this excellent, well crafted work of art is that Priest successfully mix metal and classical influence into a cohesive whole. I've heard many other bands attempt that amalgamation, and it usually sounds hammered together, having a weak effect on my ear. This is the first Judas Priest album that takes their theatrical efforts to the next level, making their metal a cinematic experience. No one will change my mind about Nostradamus, it is 100% pure metal alchemy. Hail The Metal Gods, the one and only Judas Priest!
Free Music Review: The second coming of Sag Wings and More! Hit: 5 Stars
So by now all of you have seen or purchased this release and if you havent your a fool. This is pure Judas Priest "Sad Wings of Destiny-Sin after Sin" era of the 70's with a dash of new Priest on the title track.
This is the best cd I have heard in a long time, Fans of Manowar and Iced Earth will like this double dosage of metal conceptitis!
Judas Priest have done a splendid job of taking the bull by the horns and doing what made them happy and not fall into "We need another Painkiller or Jugulator (AKA Ripper Owens)fast paced lp!"
This is great stuff! IF you loved the old style of Judas Priest get ready this is for you and for those of you who will complain about the guitar synthesizer parts- deal with it, its intro's and outro's like Iced Earth and Manowar do on every cd. It adds to the ambiance of the whole "Nostradamus" concept they have achieved on this grand opus!
Judas Priest have returned in great style.
Free Music Review: NOSTRADAMUS is AVENGED!! Hit: 5 Stars
I knew the majority of people who buy this are not going to like it when I heard it all for the first time last week or so.
Why?
It won't be (as REVOLVER magazine stated) "metal enough".
And I agree...this cd has 4-5 metallic hard-driving songs...that is it. But what it does have is operatic overtones...brilliant singing by Halford...some of the most tasty guitar licks.
Lots of the songs are 1-2 mins of heavy heavy keyboards with Rob singing quietly over the top of them.
A lot of feeling, growth and progressive elements...think a more keyboardsy A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH by Maiden.
So if you are looking for some heavy JP...skip this one.
If you are looking to hear some of the best moments of this band then definitley buy NOSTRADAMUS.
I enjoyed the whole cd...and it grows after every listen...but you can't just crank it up and hope for 1983 SCREAMIN FOR VENGEANCE-style ferocity.
You have been warned.
Free Music Review: Return to form Hit: 5 Stars
With this newest installment in the legendary catalogue of Judas Priest we have a return to the concept album that was a popular genre back in the days when fans actually listed to albums from beginning to end.
I personally enjoyed this album because it reminded me of a bygone era when artist released music like this as opposed to a couple of formula hits with a set of filler material to exploit their fanbase and have an excuse to tour.
This is a very heavy album but it is not "Angel Of Retribution" they proved they can produce a scorcher with that one. On this album they offer us something that's a cross between a classic priest album and a Vincent Price movie. I liked it, it created a type of atmosphere that I didn't expect before listening to it.
Hopefully they'll take a page from Alice Cooper and incorporate a visual element into their act that enhances the album's original presentation.
Free Music Review: This is a CREATIVE MASTERPIECE! Hit: 5 Stars
I agree with the point if you are looking for the "Metal Gods" head-banging sound & feel, this is not for you. I love Judas Priest, I love heavy metal, and I love their classic metal songs. But on a whole different level, I think Nostradamus is a brilliant piece of work.
No one ever likes concept albums when first released. But if you have any idea about music and history, this is a CREATIVE MASTERPIECE! 20 years from now, it will be the benchmark for all concept albums. Some of the lyrics are written in the same style of using quatrains that Nostradamus used. The lyrics are powerful and follow the history of Nostradamus, and the art work in the book ties everything together with the music. There are some heavy metal sounding tunes in the mix, but it is more the style of Judas Priest as Metal Minstrels.
I say cheers to Judas Priest for daring to try something new and growing creatively!
