Free Music Notes for NostradamusFree Music Review: Experimental, Intriguing, Epic Hit: 5 Stars
I usually dont review CD's, as time is a premium with me. After reading some of the mindless reviews trashing this work, I was compelled to right something in support of this very interesting and compelling album.
First, I would like to say I have been a Judas Priest fan since the early 80's, and was at the famous (or infamous) 85 concert in Madison Square Garden. I love Classic Priest. I also think that they have released several bombs, most notably "Turbo". For all the folks who think this recording is boring, or bad, please refer back to Turbo, along with Rocka Rolla, Ram it Down, etc. I dont mean to put this CD down to the level of these works by this comparison. I just think people need some perspective.
Moving on to "Nostradamus:, I have to say I have been overwhelmed by the level of musicianship, songwriting, and last but not least Halford's vocals. They are amazing, and this work showcases his abilities like no previous work in the JP catalogue. This is an epic work, with short acoustic and piano interludes. it is mostly moderate tempo, and alternates between heavy and not so heavy pieces. I think it needs to be listened to numerous times as it grows me over time.
I think that people who are open minded to new things, and lean towards prog, will love this CD. The younger people who like Hardcore, Metalcore, Nu Metal, and so on may not appreciate it. I find myself finding elements of some of the earlier JP stuff, along with new sounds, on this CD. I encourage anyone who likes JP, and metal, to patiently listen to this.
Free Music Review: Great work by Judas Priest! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD was very unusual for Judas Priest. These guys are old legends and shouldn't want to progress their sound, but they did! Nostradamus sounds old school with some progressive new school power metal concepts. There are plenty of great guitar leads from KK and Glenn.
The great songs are Prophecy, revelations, death, plague, persecution, exiled, and alone.
The good songs are Nostradamus, conquest, and Future of mankind.
The interludes are average and not very important.
The lame songs are lost love, new beginnings, war, and visions.
If you are looking for the operatic defenders of the faith style classic metal you will like this! If you like fast and heavy like Painkiller or Jugulator you could be disappointed. Yes, the ballads are terrible.
The songs have strong gothic type keyboards, epic sound effects, and galloping bass lines that sound pretty awesome. Rob Halford sings in Italian in the song plague. Nostradamus as a whole is diverse and progressive rock-metal, this is NOT brutal thrash or speed metal. Each song is about as heavy as the painkiller era songs but nothing is very fast. Think of Iron Maiden's 7th son and Pink Floyd The Wall meets Judas Priest's Angel Of Retribution meets The phantom of the opera and you've got Nostradamus. A great cd.
Very interesting and good music. Check it out! If somebody says this sucks then please listen to this CD a few times on a good sound system and then compare it to Metallica's St. Anger. This is really cool music.
Free Music Review: SOMETIMES YOU DO HAVE TO BE OLD TO BE WISE Hit: 5 Stars
At first I thought it was pompously disappointing, but I'm beginning to realize now that this is a beautiful, exciting, ingenious album. It took me a while to get used to all those highly uncharacteristic features: the slow songs, the background vocals, the dominant keyboards, the acoustic bits, the synthesized string sections. But after quite a few careful spins, I've really fallen in love with it. It's a real rock opera, complete with bombastic songs, dramatic lyrics, seriously condensed arrangements, constant twists and turns, and a desperate yearning for the sublime that often borders on the ridiculous. Killer stuff. True, the uncompromising, solemn approach might be laughable at times, but at least there are no cute, light, throwaway songs here, the kind of juvenile anthems normally written in five minutes during a break in the studio, songs that, unfortunately, have plagued almost every previous Priest release, including the old masterpieces. Ultimately, it's a classic concept album: dark, mysterious, and somewhat hard to comprehend, the type of musical effort that forces you to listen to it over and over again in a pleasurable attempt to figure out what in the name of God is going on. Tipton and Downing deliver some of their best intertwining guitarwork, Ian Hill plays a mean, distinctive, inventive bass, Scott Travis is hard and heavy on the drums, and Halford's voice is simply superb: no childish death growls, very few falsetto shrieks, and plenty of the good old steady baritone, full of power, emotion, and control. An absolute winner.
Free Music Review: judas priest creates a historic masterpiece in Nostradamus Hit: 5 Stars
i know there are many judas priest fans out there who thinks this new album is boring or sucks and cant stand the chorus and electrical orchestra ,,but this is a mature priest going back to their earlier music like beyond the realm of death, blood red skies, victim of changes, this is album is a metal journey a story...you could say "why couldnt they produce another "screaming for vengeance" or "british steel" or "defenders of the faith" or "ram it down" or even "point of entry" but they choose to do this and it is still heavy. There are heavy guitar riffs..and the sound is haunting. i would say this album is a metal verson of "pink floyd the wall" artistic in form yet keeping the theme dark and mysterious..i have the deluxe copy with the book and the artwork alone is amazing..like 'lenardo da vinci designed it.' it has an ancient look..dont forget this guy Nostradamas was predictor..a prophet who journeyed into the occult and black arts to change his name to Nostradamus..
i enjoyed the cds.
to me as a devoted priest fan and metal fan at heart..it never hurts to explore different avenues as long as it remains haunting in metal..and this record does..it is worth buying. iron maiden did something like this with "dance of death" or even better " a matter of life and death" although it was heavier thru and thru..but there are heavy riffs of harmony here with the cords..i give Priest credit for doing this..it is a journey and a journey worth listening too.

Free Music Review: Priest's Nostradamus twists another dimension into the Metallion! Hit: 5 Stars
After only a few reviewed listens, I was quite impressed with the
plethora of elements that Judas Priest conjured up for their latest effort on Nostradamus!
An impressive twist of the tale steping back and forward into man's longtime evilution. It explores the sins of the fathers gone by right up to today's society still riding the waves of time and mankind's uncertain future? Nostradamus shows another realm of Priest exploring their own creative concept filled with mysterious soundscapes, midtempo melodies, and synphonic drama mixed into their trademark hard & heavy metal domain! There are many standout songs including the intro./Dawn of Creation, The Phophecy, Revelations, Plague & Pestilence, Sands Of Time, Persecution, Visions, the Title track, and the album finale/etc..!
If your looking for another start to finish metal effort, this one is simply a slight departure into areas that many metal acts have explored before. You have black metal rockers like Dimmu Borgir/etc..using dramatic, airey orchestrations, Newer bands like Iced Earth who always seems to explore newer adventures in darker concept music writing. And now, the Beast that is Priest have done their concept Nostradamus! It's definitely worth a LISTEN & then some! These Metal Masters from Great Britian really deliver energetic passion, pleasure, and pain twisting another dimension into the Metallion! Great showing all around by Rob, Glenn, K.K., Ian, & Scott! Go on now, go get it!
