Free Music Review: Awesome Album!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an awesome album by Judas Priest. Admittedly it takes a few listens to really appreciate it. There are some great metal songs on the album. Not sure if people who are dissing this have fully listened to the album all the way thru more than once. This has really grown on me. I own every Priest album and I would say this is the most creative yet. This is a long way from when I first saw them in concert in 1979 after they released Killing Machine. How many bands have ever been able to get away with a double album that is not live or greatest hits? Led Zeppelin (Physical Graffiti), Beatles (White Album) and Pink Floyd (The Wall) are notable examples. This album in my opinion lives in that category as one of the greatest works this band has created. I defy anyone to listen to the title track and tell me that is not classic Priest! The track has guitar riffs not unlike Painkiller. Future of Mankind is probably mt favorite track on the album. Here Halford's voice is showcased like never before. I guess I am one of those who preferred Rob Halford's solo music to Priest at the time Ripper Owens was singing alongside Glenn and KK. To me much of Nostradamus has more of the Halfordesque qualities than it does of true classic priest of the 80's. This though is an awesome album. I got a free ticket to their concert in Dallas to boot. Even if you hate the CD but re a Priest fan that has to be a good deal. Long live the Priest!

Free Music Review: Takes a while to sink in..
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm surprised by the low rating, as after numerous listens I'm starting to think this is their best release (just so you know where I'm coming from, DotF would be my fav, followed closely behind by HBfL, SC, and SAS). Sure it wasn't an instant connection like a lot of their other material, but this is a much more complex release with many intricacies and nuances which take a while to appreciate. Even so, there are still many "THIS is metal!" moments (such as track 4 "Revelations") that only Judas Priest (and Rob) can do. The interludes are more like introductions to the heavy hitting songs, and they flow nicely to the main course. The melodies are catchy (such as "Sands of time") and showcase Rob as an amazing and versatile singer. Just to restate, the interludes are more like 2 min songs than actual 'interludes' (think Anathema's "Childhood Dream" off "A Natural Disaster" - which could of just as well been 2 min of silence). So these "interludes" are packed with strong melodies and vocal performance.

I do have my issues with this CD (such as cheesy lyrics in the song "Nostradamus" -- Nostradamus is "here to stay" huh? Also Robs 'operatic' singing at the beginning sounds out of place/weak.) And regarding the concept of Nostradamus I fall on the side of skepticism, so this release makes me cringe a bit in that sense.

But overall, their best release yet.

Free Music Review: Judas Priest's "Black Album"
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought Nostradamus about 4 days ago and immediately from first listen was very pleased (Metallica Black album quality). Nostradamus has not left my stereo/walkman since my purchase. The album as a whole flows very well with most/some of the songs starting out abit mellow then the fine metal of Judas Priest. I have read a bunch of reviews stating its commerical and nothing like their past albums Turbo,Ram It Down, and Painkiller. And well its not. This reminds so much of 1991 when Metallica came out with their epic self-titled album. During that time and up to present some fans of Metallica say they went commerical and sound barely anything from what they did in the past...same is true here with Judas Priest. I for one love both Nostradamus and the Black Album and quite happy of the music these bands created (mature efforts too). Why reinvent the past. Some other similarities to Metallica's self titled... both band managers from Judas Priest and Metallica gave advice to both bands respectively about reaching out to a wider audience and I applaud their managers for this advice as its a sucess in my book. Nostradamus has many fine tunes here heavy and slow/heavy which come out very well balance of music for an album. Some of my favorites are Prophecy,Revelations,War,Death,Conquest,Presecution,Alone and all others are great. Nostradamus is a must get....enjoy!

Free Music Review: Thinking Man's Metal
Hit: 5 Stars

I like everyone else has been a fan of Judas Priest since the halcyon days of the 80's and 90's. I have to admit that I was huge fan of Ripper Owens and was disappointed when he left. When I heard about this project I was interested to hear what it would sound like.

After picking up my copy the other day I sat down and listened from start to finish, and at the conclusion I was amazed. The dark and light of this album is amazing, and gives the albums real feeling and emotion.

Unfortunately most metal heads can be very closed in their thinking, but if you are willing to open your mind and give this a chance you will see that it is indeed a brilliant piece of music.

Now I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but the people that have said that Rob's voice sound weak, or the guitars don't shred - I ask you "Did you actually listen to the CD in it's entirety?"

Rob is in sensational vocal form, and their are some excellent guitar parts right through the album both fast and slow.

It is always a big risk when an established world famous group does something different, and yes St Anger was terrible no matter how many listens I had. But this is really good for those who are willing to explore new territory.

Well done Judas Priest - Great Job!!!

Free Music Review: This album has made me a fan!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a 36 year old metalhead, and I pretty much know my stuff to the tune of some 4000 songs on my Ipod spanning 40+ years. I have always respected Priest and enjoy their well-known songs but I was never a hardcore fan, nor did I hate the band. Having said that, I started listening to Nostradamus with expectations of a straight-forward metal record with a few good tracks. I was immediately blown away track after track until the end of disc 2, and that's no small feat for me who's known for being a bit on the choosy side. It's amazing that Rob Halford and company not only made a brilliant concept album, but they blended prog and metal seamlessly and with amazing confidence. There is a lot of heart in the making of this album, and boy does it deliver in spades. The musicianship is balls to the wall and experimental wrapped with vocals that sound more youthful than most of what's out today. This is a great accomplishment for Priest, and this new direction has won my admiration and my fandom.
....And to the few low I.Q. morons who have ignorantly panned this record please be aware the new Hanna Montana record will be out soon since that's more their speed. Don't hurt yourselves trying to figure out all of the two-syllable words in this review either!
