Free Music Notes for NostradamusFree Music Review: The Priest breaks some new ground... Hit: 5 Stars
I must say this is not exactly the way i expected the album to sound. I was hoping for some faster tempos and maybe less keyboards, but all in all this is a pretty solid effort. I must say Im not a big fan of some of the ballads on the album particularly lost love, but this album has been growing on me over repeated listens. I think its a bold move for Judas Priest going into more progressive territory as some of the fans will definitely not be able to appreciate this effort. But i think its showing the growth of their many years of writing experience, and i feel that the fans that are also musicians will appreciate this album. For all the people out there who are gonna trash this album, you try to go write a double concept album! Im all for experimentation when its main purpose is not to jump on the latest trendwagon.I think the lyrics for most of the songs are quite good, exploring the struggles of being someone like nostradamus and the struggles of his time. Time will tell wheteher this becomes a turning point or just a novel album in their extensive catalog. Either way they took a chance, and put in a lot of effort to this work, and you cant fault them for that!
Free Music Review: Destined to be a classic !!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to agree with some of the others who gave this album a high rating because I, like them, am very open minded & when I listen to this newest Priest offering I am VERY impressed! Let me just get straight to the point & say, YES this is MUCH different from any album the band has recorded before, HOWEVER, it still has enough of the trademarks to keep it familiar to BIG Priest fans. The best way I can describe 'Nostradamus' is that it brings back the "classic" side of Priest mixed with elements of progressive/power metal bands today. So better yet, if you like power metal & hard rock music, then picture the 2 put together in the perfect formula & you have an awesome album such as 'Nostradamus!' Honestly, I don't even care for Priest's early, early albums yet I love this newest album which has some of the sounds from those albums but because it's heavy, dark, eerie, mysterious, beautiful & just well produced, it's enough to hook me in! PLEASE Priest fans & any fans of almost any metal/ hard rock music in general, GIVE THIS ALBUM A LISTEN!!! 'Nostradamus' sounds like a classic album even if Priest never made one before or after!
Free Music Review: A new concept album Hit: 5 Stars
Beware - this is not just fast guitars and pounding drums. This is Judas Priest being artists and making an album that dares not only to be different from their previuos releases, but a concept album of the life of Nostradamus.
It's taking me quite a few run-throughs to listen to it all, but that's the beauty of a double album, right? Anyways, the songs on here are thoughtful and tell the story (music and lyrics) of the prophet during his life. All I have to say that the album is so good, I can't stop listening to it.
I give kudos to the band for not making another "Angel Of Retibution", or "Turbo". This is a big chance they took, but they are artists looking to expand thier horizons and away from the same old boring "heavy metal" sound. Metal bands today are so bland, and all they conc entrate are on fast giutars, drums and vocals of "kill your mom and dad". Music like that is what's killing the industry.
Fans of Priest - either try to change and mature like priest has done, or stay in the same frame of mind and keep listeneing to acts like Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold.
Free Music Review: Wow! Judas Priest hits one out of the ballpark! Hit: 5 Stars
While some fans have complained that Nostradamus isn't "METAL" enough, I would argue that Rob, Glenn, KK, and the boys have put together a record for the ages.
Does this album have "hits" like "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" or "Breaking the Law?" No. All for the better... with Nostradamus, JP has allowed themselves a large enough canvas (105 min) to paint an expansive fresco which invites thoughtful reflection.
In order to "get" this album, I needed to really LISTEN to each CD over and over... and then, I began to fully appreciate the album as a complete piece of art. Between the emotional range of Rob's vocals, the genuinely touching orchestration, and the classic double-guitar Priest sound, I am bowled over by the depth and intricacy of the musical arrangements in this piece.
DO NOT buy Nostradamus as an MP3 "album!" If you do, your listening experience will suffer terribly - those blasted pauses between tracks are more than annoying... they're criminal. This is a concept album worth many listens on the home stereo. Get it now!
Free Music Review: Something new from the Priest... and the Priest still rules! Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan since I was 14. I'm now 43.
Disliked all albums since and including Turbo... but here we've got something very different that's sure to please the old fans. This is the same Priest that made me daydream about Metal when I was a kid -- bombastic, heroic and powerful. Plus -- as an added bonus -- this time they threw in their maturity composition-wise... so it's just an amazing adventure!
Sure, the lyrics may seem a bit preposterous to some... but this is what Priest does, and they do it better than anyone. If you read Tolkien looking for "cheese" you simply missed the point... same idea with the Priest.
Listen to Nostradamus without prejudice. If you think you're "too cool" or "too jaded" I'm sure there's other bands for you out there. This one is for the more mature Metal fan who remembers that old feeling and wants it back without having to dust off old albums.
Judas Priest "grew up" alongside their fans and they deliver the Metal the way we want it today... not the way we wanted it 30 years ago!
