Free Music Review: The best ~ LIVE ~ recording....ever !
Hit: 5 Stars

As a child growing up during the turbulant 60s, I was a fan of the BEATLES, ROLLING STONES, THE MAMAS & PAPAS and JUDY GARLAND. However as I became a teenager in the 70s, I discarded any recordings I owned of Ms.Garland.

I have since matured and recently rediscovered this classic from the talented GARLAND. If you want to own but one recording from this American treasure, I strongly suggest this be your selection.

This recording won five grammy awards in 1960 and went to be crowned "ALBUM OF THE YEAR". It's Judy Garland's largest selling recording & her most succesful work of art.

The emotion and mature intensity from the vocal performance captured on this collection is truly brilliant and amazing.
She may not be a female vocalist having the same vocal acrobatics as the current crop of divas (MARIAH, CELINE or WHITNEY) but she is a legend that could teach all of them a thing or two about entertaining audiences with melodies and lyrics.

The songs on this CD are all classics. This recording is bright & dynamic standing up very well against the test of time.
Considering the eventual outcome of her life, the rendition captured on this cd of "OVER THE RAINBOW" is sad and yet a beautiful glimpse into the soul of a sad soul.

Free Music Review: Her voice at its peak!
Hit: 5 Stars

There are not enough words in any language to describe how truly remarkable and legendary Judy Garland's performance at Carnegie Hall is. I've always loved all the old singers like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tony Bennett, but Miss Garland beats all three combined with this recording. This CD is absolute proof that she is the singer of the century. No one will ever be able to touch her, she broke the mold and set the standard for future female entertainers like Streisand and Minnelli to try and emulate. Her voice could meet any style and there never was a song that she couldn't make her own. She moves from show tunes to ballads to jazz effortlessly. I dare you to hear this recording and not fall in love with her. Everything just clicked that night. The audience, full of the biggest names in entertainment and the toughest New York critics, were hysterical by the end of the evening. Her voice, and the emotion and electricity that she had as a performer, were in complete harmony and while she had the belting power to bring down the walls of the theater she also had the intimacy and sensitivty to break the hearts of her listeners. A Magnificent masterpiece that shows why Judy was considered to be "The World's Greatest Entertainer." She was truly at her peak here.

Free Music Review: One of the Best

Info:
There are several releases of "Judy at Carnegie Hall". First is the 1961 LP. It excluded all the between track chatter and the pitch was set fast so that it could be made into a 2Lp set. Great recording. Second, a single CD was released by Capitol in 1987 to voluminous complaints...it was incomplete. Third, a two CD set was released in 1989 by Capitol to compensate for the single CD that didn't include the whole concert. It was mixed, and complete, except for "Alone Together" for which a studio copy was inserted. A SMASH!!! but it still wasn't the exact concert... In 2000 DCC released the two CD GOLD Disc set that was the ACTUAL CONCERT. It was un-mixed, un-edited and pure..a dream for the Judy fan. But, dreams aren't always reality. Mixing sometimes helps a concert...so there is Judy at Carnegie Hall Remastered. It is mixed, with the original "Alone Together" and in proper track order and with less alteration than the 1989 or 1961 releases. The best bet for anyone interested in the best live concert ever recorded. The DCC release IS the purest, but it is expensive. As for this CD, "there's none better".

Free Music Review: Garland in the performance of her career
Hit: 5 Stars

In 1959, a hepatitis-ravaged Judy Garland was told by her doctors that she would never be able to perform again. Life as a permanent semi-invalid became the impetus for Garland to beat her illness, and in 1961 she was in the prime of good health for her landmark concert at Carnegie Hall. Almost every single showbusiness personality was in the audience, and right from the start, the atmosphere was so thick you could have cut it with a knife. Musical director Mort Lindsey later referred to the event akin to attending a revival meeting.

Here, on the landmark recording, the energy and flash of that fateful night is captured forever. It's still one of the best live concert recordings ever done; certainly it captures Garland having the time of her life, regaling the audience with showstopper after showstopper, and delighting with her hilarious stories and trademark ad-libs.

From the first few bars of the Overture to the final encore of "Chicago", it's all here. And fans wouldn't have it any other way. This is the prime example of Judy as the world's greatest entertainer. A must-own.

Free Music Review: Im running out of superlatives!
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes i am,ive reviewed this in the past but this "ONE",if technology keeps going at this rate,i can tell my grandkids that yes,i was in the audience that night.Where previously the balance was to the left,on others to the right, the needle is right in the "middle" on this one,BRAVO you guys.

What happened that night?,for this to be called, one of the greatest evenings in showbusiness history,no one knows, how can you describe magic,an insight can be gained from a famous tenor who once said ,"you can practice, practice, have the right singers, conducter, ect, but you cant garauntee lightning will strike,it strikes once or twice in a career, you cant define it,when it happens you know, everybody knows".The audience were whipped into a frensy akin to an evenglical gathering, the musicains were in a "trance" ,how a "90" piece orcherstra can seamslessly blend as "1" is unforgetable, every note she hit was awesome, her ex-husband described it as someone who has a once in a lifetime round of golf.

Did lightning strike that night?

There was a"T h U n D e R s T o R m"
