Free Music Review: These CDs made me a total Judy Garland Fan
Hit: 5 Stars

At a yard sale, a friend was offered .50 cents for her "Judy Live at Carnegie Hall" album. She refused and said she could not believe that someone would have the gall to offer so little. She loaned me the 2 record set and I simply fell in love with the divine Miss Garland. It was without a doubt the night that the art of entertainment worked to the MAX. Judy makes you smile and makes you cry tears and if you think of her tragic life maybe a few more tears. Through it all, you must remember that you are listening to one of the World's Premiere Entertainers. Yea, even better than over-hyped Streisand. When I purchased the re-mastered CDs from ... I began to feel that I had attended the concert because it is a live recording with all the stories and asides from Garland, and musicians bumping microphones and of course the ambience of Carnegie Hall. Buy this CD and enjoy the best performance in the history of Entertainment. It is not to be missed.

Free Music Review: The reissue does justice to - and improves on -the original
Hit: 5 Stars

I've had the original 1960s reel-to-reel tape release of this album for years. The original sound engineers did such a spectacular job that I was nervous about how this completely remastered and reengineered CD might sound. Would Mort Lindsay's Orchestra sound as full and lush? Would the live, concert-hall feel survive all the digitizing and remixing?

The CD engineers got it very right. The concert sounds great, *and* they reinstated all of Garland's banter between songs (much of which was missing from all of the previous tape, LP and CD releases). It gives this two-CD set a unique, you-are-there feel.

Admittedly, half a century after the fact, one or two of the lyrics might seem culturally insensitive. But put yourself in the era, sit back and enjoy. Garland's passionate rendition of so many classic tunes and the dynamite orchestrations make this one of my favorite concert albums in any genre.

Free Music Review: Judy's greatest concert triumph to be re-lived over & over!
Hit: 5 Stars

Judy Garland was undoubtedly the greatest entertainer of her time, probably of all time. This Carnegie Hall concert was a triumphant comeback for her, and thank goodness Capitol Records recorded it. It became a best selling LP and won many awards, and now it's back in a stunning remastered edition. A must-have for any fan of great American music.

My one quibble (and a major one): Why the moronic additional liner notes? So poorly written, they read like a bad elementary school book report. I guess any obsessed fan can pass him or herself off as a professional writer to clueless record label employees nowadays. A terrible insult to the presentation of one of the all-time classic albums in the history of recorded music. Surely they could have gotten someone else to cast a little well-written perspective on this great classic recording. Judy deserves better and so does the buying public. Shame on you, Capitol!

Free Music Review: Absolutely the best
Hit: 5 Stars

Judy At Carnegie Hall is without a doubt the finest live recording by a female artist in the 20th century, period. Other singers have had their "live" recordings, too, but they cannot compete with Miss Garland on this night. (I swear, every "live" recording by other [female] artists, try to duplicate the success of this evening). She starts off strong and stays that way, taking the lucky audience - and us lucky listeners - with her as she wraps her talent around 26 songs. Today's stars, and I use that word lightly, could take a tip from Miss Garland. Today's singers seem to need all kinds of technical and lighting props, etc. Miss Garland had herself and an orchestra. Who could ask for anything more? She is playful and winning and heartbroken and wistful and even sensual ("Do It Again"). It's all here. And it's all brilliant. A must for any CD library.

Free Music Review: Great
Hit: 5 Stars

I thought a few minutes about a title for this review. And it's the 1st time I felt a need to write one for Amazon. I read a few of the reviews and most of them say that this recording is a must have for Garland fans. To narrow a description. It's a must have for ANY lover of music. I grew up listening to rock in it's heyday. Fresh Cream was my 1st album. And on from there.
This is simply the finest performance by an artist that I have ever heard. The emotion that flows in both directions, from Judy to the audience and back, between the band and singer, and Judy and her soul is .... what? you can't pick an adjective the fits. If you can listen to her sing"Somewhere over the Rainbow" and not fell the passion, the pain, and not get a tear in you're eye, then pass on this and go get Carrie Underwood.
