Free Music Notes for Once Upon a TimeFree Music Review: Awesome! Hit: 5 Stars
I just love this CD (received it today). Julie Andrews is one my childhood idols. I am so glad some songs from High Tor and Tell it Again were included, I have these LPs but I wondered if I would ever listen to it on a digital recording... Also the small biography and some photos from her childhood, as well as the old songs she sang when she was twelve (though I missed Blue Danube, which I listened to on tape once, from Educating Archie show), make this CD a wonderful companion to the upcoming biography she wrote (and I am eagerly waiting to read).
This CD is a must for every Julie Andrews fan.
Now: I want Love Me Tender, the japanese version, with 16 songs, released on CD :D
Free Music Review: What a wonderful treat Hit: 5 Stars
I've never heard the complete versions of the songs Julie Andrews recorded when she was a child star in England. It's hard to fathom these are done by a 12-year-old--an absolutely beautifully toned voice! The childrens' songs she recorded in her 20s are here too and all done with primarily percussion accompaniment. Really very interesting and fun to listen to. This is a wonderful collection.
Free Music Review: Lovely Lilting Music Hit: 5 Stars
Starting with Julie Andrew's earliest recordings, "Once Upon a Time," includes a lovely selection of art songs and show tunes. This charming collection features Julie Andrew's incomparable lilting soprano.
Free Music Review: 'Magical Moments' Hit: 4 Stars
'Once Upon A Time' is a treasure for me, because, although it includes several of Julie Andrews' early recordings, the sound quality is excellent and most of the songs are a delight! Whilst I adore the first section of the CD, I find that the tracks 14-18 'Tell It Again', which include a lot of recitation, do not really enhance the album's appeal, but that is just my opinion! 'Jack and the Beanstalk', for me, is the least appealing and longest track in the first section and again is largely spoken. In spite of these less appealing tracks, the album is very good value for money and Julie Andrew's singing is quite magical!
Free Music Review: From Little Julie to Dame Julie Hit: 4 Stars
Clearly this is something for devout Dame Julie fans. I have always been fascinated at the amount of time and effort Dame Julie spent in the early stages of her career. Because of this, she had really had very little formal education, maybe the equivalent of junior high school in the U.S. And yet, she speaks and writes beautifully. Three cheers for whoever was able to preserve these "stages of development". If you are only interested in hearing her music as an adult, this is not for you. If you are a fan of Dame Julie, you will enjoy.
