This, julieta's 1st album as a solista is so refreshing as is "bueninvento" her 2nd. She mixes her excellent accordian playing with a broad rock style which at times can be almost goth "libertad", and at times, more upbeat "de mis pasos". Her delicate voice adds deep meaning to the music, as there is a sort of sadness found within. I really believe that Ms. Venegas's music will appeal to fans of many generes, as it is so original and catchy and intelligent.
My faves are "antes", "Opurtunidad" and "libertad"

I heard this CD playing in a record store and had to have it. My prediction: this album will be re-released in a year or two with a couple of English language tracks on it, and it will cross over to a wide pop/rock audience. (Don't get accordian fright - on this record the instrument is not obtrusive. Venegas plays piano as much or more, and that coupled with her songwriting makes me think she'll appeal to the pretty sizeable Fiona Apple audience.) If there's any justice, Venegas will get some attention from U.S. mainstream listeners.Free Music Review: Don't know what she is saying, but somehow I understand it.

What a welcome surprise from pop/salsa (no offense, I like those sometimes). Her songs are strong, and remind me of early Tori Amos, the piano parts, the wailing, especially tracks 01, Oportunidad; and 07, Esta vez. Track 11, Sabiendose de los descalzos, is tribal and makes me want to stamp my feet in anger. Who knows why. Only negative, is the tiny transcription of the lyrics, in a vertical Japanese style, which makes decryption nearly impossible.Free Music Review: Aquí, Fun Latino Pop Rock

Aquí is a great record. Julieta Venegas is a hard hitting pop rocker along the lines of POE or early Alanis. The neat thing about Julieta is that she goes from lilting jazzy rhythms to straight ahead rock with a totally un-affected voice. So many Latin pop stars sound trained and polished. Julieta Venegas has a great voice and just sings. Her other two albums are also quite good. Sí is somewhat more refined while Bueninvento is much rawer.Free Music Review: Aquí, lo mejor de Julieta

Es el mejor CD de los cuatro que tiene, por su contenido más rockero, por sus letras feministas y no tan cursis como las actuales; es más, algo que me enojó mucho fue su cambio repentino su maquillaje y el pearcing en la nariz... qué pasó Julieta??? acaso fueron los medios de comunicación o el consumismo los que te cambiaron?
