Free Music Review: Astounding album!
Hit: 5 Stars

First, let me say that the disc I bought in Mexico also came with a DVD of the concert. It's very professionally produced and a pleasure to watch. Her band members are all very entertaining on stage. Too bad the one from Amazon doesn't come with the DVD (the specs on the main page here says it comes with just 1 disc).

Now, on to the music. This is the first I've ever heard of Julieta Venegas. I am absolutely in love! Her music is stunning. Many of the musicians on this album play several instruments and they play an incredible variety of them on this disc. Julieta sounds wonderful and her backup singers have some of the most gorgeous and perfectly-blending voices I've ever heard. The songs on this album are fun, beautiful, and emotional. I can't say enough about it. Just splendid.

She also has several guest artists who sing along with her and some of whom play instruments. Don't worry--they don't take anything away from Julieta.

Don't think twice. Just buy this album!

EDIT (9/30/2009) - The Special Edition apparently is the version that comes with the DVD. The concert is so much fun to watch, you should definitely pick up that edition rather than just the CD.

Free Music Review: Venegas at her best
Hit: 5 Stars

"Julieta Venegas MTV Unplugged" is a great CD and I recommend it without reservation. I have "Si" and "Limon y Sal," which I also like very much. I was hesitant to purchase "Unplugged" because of overlap with these other CD's, and because I'm not generally a fan of live recordings. However, "Unplugged" has proven to be one of my best CD purchases in quite a long time. Venegas has a beautiful voice and a really fresh, smart sound that comes out in "Unplugged" even better than some studio produced music. This is especially evident on songs like "Limon y Sal," "El Presente," and "Me Voy." Her duet with Marisa Monte singing "Ilusion" is extraordinary. My Spanish is quite limited, but I still enjoy Venegas's music immensely. If her CD's came with English translations of the lyrics, she would triple her sales in the US. It is a mystery why the producers don't do this, at least on-line. However, after Google searching, I was able to find quality translations for about half of the songs on this CD.

Free Music Review: Wonderful.
Hit: 5 Stars

It's obvious Julieta enjoys what she's doing. I've heard alot of music...I currently own hundreds of albums from all over the world and she is one of my favorites. I've heard very few artists who can time and time again deliver amazing preformances one after the other. Not only does she sing she writes songs, plays the accordion, produces, and arranges as well. I own, including this album, four of her five (not including her best of). This album is amazing, she breathes new life into her best songs and offers a few new ones to boot. Unplugged performaces often suffer from trying to hard to recreate what was originally done with electric guitars and haevy studio mixing. Naturally she does a very good job.

Free Music Review: Intriguing Delight
Hit: 5 Stars

I just caught a glimpse of this on TV. But now hardly a day goes by when I don't listen to "Algun Dia." The tubas bubbling low sounds like something the Beatles would have done. I love it.I don't speak Spanish, but the personality revealed in her voice just intrigues the hell out of me. It makes me want to learn Spanish and travel to Mexico to see what is going on down there. In years past I've traveled to Europe, but I've been thinking lately that the exotica is right next door. OK, maybe there's a hell of a lot of danger right now. But Julieta's voice assure me that there's much more going on in music.
