Free Music Review: bubble gum
Hit: 2 Stars

This album is a radical departure from her previous work, targeted squarely at the pop audience. Her earlier work featured complex and thoughtful arrangements that even had an experimental quality. Even when she mused on love and relationships on her first two discs, the tracks and words were meaningful, heartfelt, and most importantly sincere. This album however, is full of radio-ready music and simplistic lyrics that have no longevity.

Alas, this work has zero political value, particularly considering the current climate, in which we need artists of her immense talent and intelligence the most. I realize that every artist is naturally free to focus on whatever they choose for their work, especially something as important as marriage and happiness... it simply seems that the songs and lyrics lack the power and meaning to effectively convey such important events. It's pure pop, that like most music of the genre, comes off as disposable, and ultimately unispiring.

Hopefully, this isn't a trend that will continue, as Julieta Venegas is undoubtely one of today's most talented, articulate, and thought-provoking artists, in any language or arena. Her combination of insightful lyrics, unique phrasing/ vocalizations, and fresh arrangements and instrumentation makes for excellent listening! I am still looking forward to her next work, though with a bit of trepidation. Before this album, I couldn't really think of another artist that sounded like her... with this album, I can think of at least a dozen, none of which would normally compare to her talent.

Free Music Review: Forgive Me, Julieta
Hit: 2 Stars

I'm sorry. You can read my reviews of her other two albums, both FIVE STARS. Not only did I love her albums, but I loved her cover tunes on the Tigres, JOse ALfredo and Soda Stereo tribute albums, not to mention her track on AmoresPerros.
But this one...man, oh, man. This is like Paulina Rubio, Thalia-esque-ish . Way too sugary for my taste. Gone is the dark accordian laced, atmospheric gloom rock. Gone are the inteligent lyrics. Gone is the tight, inventive muscianship.
This whole album is her saying "Si" to her fiancee. I'm serious, just read the back of the insert. I mean this is ridiculous, I looked beyond the dumb album cover, and spent my hard earned $ for 10 songs that could've been written by elementary school girls (except for 2 decent tunes- "Lento" and "Donde Quiero Estar").
If you are a fan of her previous work, AS I AM, take heed, and at least listen before you buy, so you have an idea of what you are getting.
Julieta, congratulations on your marriage, but please, DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN.

Free Music Review: Sold OUT
Hit: 2 Stars

Juliet completely sold out with this album. Even my 17 year "fresa" cousin has it. Too poppy, poor lyrics. Oh well, at least we still have Ely Guerra.

Free Music Review: ¡Ay, nena! ¿Que pasó?
Hit: 1 Stars

I first heard Julieta on a compilation CD called "Exoticas: World Music Divas." I loved "Como Sé?" so much that I purchased "Aquí." At the time, I wrote (on amazon's page for that CD) that she was, hands down, the best female rock/pop singer in the world, regardless of language. I was excited to get her second release "Bueninvento." CMJ New Music Monthly even had an article about her. Her best question was at the end, in which she asked not to be compared to Britney Spears.

I was very excited about her next release when I heard "Lo Que Venga Después," from the film "Maria Llena Eres de Gracia." Brilliant.

Now we come to this one. Dear, oh dear. What the hell happened? If there were ever a Latina equivalent to the Liz Phair blantant sell out model, we have it right here. It pains me to say this because the woman is very talented. Now she's on stage performing with some guy, and, yes, Paulina Rubio, in a video I have seen on VHUno. If you want to blow all of your credibility for an increase in sales, releasing a cheese CD and appearing with pop stars is the way to do it.

What's next for her? How about teen pop magazine covershoots with a smily face and a bunny, maybe some surgery and having a hip hop star make a guest appearance on the next CD? Gotta have lots of meetings with the hair stylist, the personal trainer, and the wardrobe consultant, because that what "artists" who focus only on image do. No time for music, ya know. The Britney Spears comparisons of insipid, vapid, bubble gum pop may begin.

I can only hope she'll return to her senses. If not, maybe Molotov can write a not-so-flattering song about her...

Free Music Review: YES....you have sold yourself to mainstream Julieta !!!
Hit: 1 Stars

Julieta Venegas used to be a good Singer and musician
She was part of some insteresting groups more rock oriented
Her debut was with an album released in 1997 called AQUÍ, later she released in 2000 NUENINVENTO, her 2nd album, both albums sold very poorly and was most known as an alternative singer and musician with rocker flavor.

In this case this was her 3rd album and her style and her promising interesting carrer in the almost inexistent mexican rock had completely dissapeared.

When Julieta Venegas released this piece of trash a lot of her original fans (including me) got dissapointed and obviously she gained a lot of nwe fans.... she was now a succesfull pop singer...}
The problem here is not that she is famous since then.. the real problem is that all her style and her musical aspiration changed drastically and she made this terrible album wich is good... if you will have a mexican party celebrating the XV years of a teenager.

The song are really pop but very terrible.... for example...the lead single of this disc was a song called "ANDAR CONMIGO" and it was a succes in charts but she song (ad alsk the musci video) are Terrible !!!! just terrible.. like a bad copy of a Cantinflas movie soundtrack or something like that lyrically stupid.

The other song are boring... with simple love lyrics, simple musical arrangements...a total dissapointing album

This was the start of a good edge for Mrs Venegas to start making money with lots of concers and disc solds but musically she is lost since then.
