The talent of everyone involved here is palpable. I'd first come across Cali 2na and Cut Chemist on Ozomatli's album and was amazed at the work they did there - what they do here tops that by miles.

A lot of these tracks are quite nostaglic in a way. Nostalgic for the days of rapping on street corners and battling where the best rhymer won the day - as opposed to now where the best producer wins the money. "The Influence", for example, is made just for partying to on one level - the beat is there and the chorus is easy enough for everyone to call-and-response to. On another level, the skills have to be heard about 10 times before you can believe that this sort of thing is possible.

As an example, just listen to "Jurass Finish First" and "Quality Control". Both of these tracks have all the MCs rapping in roughly the same pattern and needing to end their verses in roughly the same way. Where lesser talent would just have each MC finsih off with the same line, J5 have creativity all over the place. I still can't believe Chali's verse on "Jurass Finish First", the rhyming is just so far from left-field that I didn't think it possible.

Another track worth watching out for is "World Of Entertainment (WOE Is Me)". The verses are typically brilliant but here even the chorus is a tongue workout. "Welcome to the wonderful world of entertainment/where art imitates life and people get famous/welcome to the world of showbiz arrangement/where lights camera action is the language" will be running through your head for days after hearing this - same goes for most of the other tracks.

I've played my copy through enough times that I can hear the voices of the MCs when I think about the words enough - and so will you if you get this album.

Buy it, it makes a great antidote to the radio.
