It is rare that the 'mature' listener is truly wooed to buy an artist under the age of say 21 because the 'maturity' factor is often lax. Justin Bieber, obviously doesn't try to sing songs beyond his age, but the maturity that he executes them is quite prodigious for one who is only 15 years old. From the first time I heard the Christopher "Tricky" Stewart produced "One Time", I knew that this 'tween' had something special. With phenomenal pipes to back his 'squeaky clean' persona, Bieber is destined to be a superstar. These seven songs on My World are a fine preview of what is to come on a full length Justin Bieber album and let me tell you folks, it is very promising.
"One Time" was a brilliant choice for a first single that appeals to all ages. The songwriting is catchy, the production sound, and Bieber's adolescent vocals are spot on. Even more perfect, the producers (one being Usher) don't try to make Bieber out to be older than he is, which bows in his favor. Follow-up "Favorite Girl" is equally infectious, though it never trumps the valedictory "One Time". The ballad "Down To Earth" is a big song, but Justin handles it extremely well making it sound as convincing as the two mid-tempo jams that precede it. "Bigger" is schmaltzy pop at its best, but as corny as it may be, it suits Bieber extremely well. Even better is second single "One Less Lonely Girl", in which Bieber is paired with Stargate (at least that who it sounds like). The Usher pairing "First Dance" is beautiful by all means and the production is among the best of the entire EP. Closer "Love Me" ends the album on a fun note, again affirming that Bieber is indeed still a kid, but a kid who has a phenomenal talent. Think back to Chris Brown's hit "Run It" when he was only 16.
No quibbles here - I think Bieber is on the right track and his EP My World confirms that notion. 4 stars.
Free Music Review: My World: Should it be part of yours? Hit: 4 Stars
Want to be Justin Bieber's favorite girl? Then his new album, My World, will be perfect for you.
Released on November 17, 2009, Bieber's pop album contains eight songs, four of which were singles before they appeared on his album.
Included on the CD is "One Time", the first song on the album. It is about Bieber and a girl who is his "one love." "Favorite Girl," the second tune, talks about a girl who is better than the rest. The third melody, "Down to Earth", is about Bieber's relationship with his parents.
In "Bigger", the fourth number, Bieber sings about how he and his girl have grown up and are "big enough to stand next to love." "One Less Lonely Girl," My World's fifth track, is Bieber's attraction to only one girl, and how she will not be lonely if they get together. "First Dance," the sixth song, featuring Usher, tells the story of Bieber's first dance with his girl, at prom.
In the seventh piece, "Love Me," Bieber loves a girl and he wants her to love him, too. His last song, "Common Denominator," is about a girl who is the common denominator between Bieber and love.
Overall, My World is out of this world. The sweet lyrics are heart-warming, extremely catchy, and put you in a marvelous mood. The album also has a fine variety of slow and fast songs that make for superb listening.
One thing Bieber could work on in the future is to give his lyrics more variety. Every song, excluding "Down to Earth," is about a girl he likes, making the songs sound the same. Also, My World, overall, was not as good as Bieber's singles that came out before the album's release. Last, in "Favorite Girl," Bieber says his girl is, "[his] prize possession." This can anger girls everywhere, as girls are people, not objects.
What are you waiting for? My World is a great album to buy for $7.99. It helps that Justin Bieber is more than attractive, too.
Free Music Review: Great Potential Here Hit: 4 Stars
I am 40 yrs old and I like the cd. I tend to gravitate towards new artist who show a lot of passion for music and who have great potential and I see that in Justin. He has taught himself to play multiple instruments purely from a love of music and a natural ability to understand it. He is charismatic and confident and can pull off what most kids his age cannot. We shouldn't expect perfection but rather see the potential in this young artist who still has time to grow and mature. For a kid who was pulled off Youtube and releases an EP a year later we should see it for what it is, pretty amazing considering its success thus far. I don't think we should write Justin off as just another over marketed teen idol. He is definitely more talented than that and I think he is here to stay for awhile if not for the long run. If you can appreciate this cd full of fun songs for what it is and not get hung up on whether there was any digital enhancement, you will like it. I've heard him live. You can say he is not as good as this artist or that artist but he is still good at doing his thing and I think it is just enjoyable to watch that and not compare him to anyone else.
