After listening to Justin's second solo album, you can understand why women tend to have wardrobe malfunctions when he's around. No longer the squeaky clean Mickey Mouse Club cast member we once knew, or even the boyish teen idol from 'N Sync, Timberlake has matured into a mega-mogul, adding producer, actor, restaurateur and humanitarian to his impressive resume. His first solo album netted him two Grammy awards, and there's no telling how far this one will go.
This album has some high caliber producers and guest artistes, with names like Timbaland, will.i.am and Rick Rubin, alongside T. I., Snoop Dog, and Three 6 Mafia among others. A mixture of Hip Hop, Dance and R&B, this album is white hot, and ought to come with a heat advisory.
The music video for the first single "SexyBack" is burning up the music channels, while the track does the same for the airwaves. Featuring Timbaland, the infectious beat and repetitive hook will have you singing
"I'm bringing sexyback", while you pump up your bass to the level setting "ridiculous" and dance along.
Second single "My Love" features T.I., and lots of vocals from Timberlake, with romantic lyrics like "I can see us holding hands / walking on the beach our toes in the sand / I can see us in the country side / sitting in the grass laying side by side". This is a mid-tempo track, sung in soulful falsetto.
Another track that ought to be a single is "LoveStoned/I Think She Knows Interlude", an excellent slower track that's almost seven and a half minutes long, and still not nearly long enough. I fell in love with this track on the first listen, and can't seem to get it out of my head, particularly from around 4:55 to the end. Trust me on this one - this track is the best I've heard in years!!!
Also hot is the title track, as well as "What Goes Around.../...Comes Around Interlude" another long but excellent track. The two long tracks alone are worth the price of the album, but there's more to come. Listen up also for "Chop Me Up" (Feat. Timbaland & Three 6 Mafia); "Damn Girl" (Feat. will.i.am); and "Summer Love/Set The Mood Prelude" (Feat. Timbaland.) "Losing My Way" is a track about drug addiction, with a huge choral finish giving it the perfect religious touch. An unusual track for this album is "Until The End Of Time" (Feat. The Benjamin Wright Orchestra), a classic R&B track sung with more soul than you would think possible.
This is undoubtedly the album of the year so far, and a must-buy for any music lover.
