Free Music Notes for IKONS [4 CD Set]Free Music Review: One of the best Kiss comps available Hit: 4 Stars
I agree that this is one of the better comps out of the many that are available. I do like how they limited the songs to the "makeup years" and gave Ace and Peter equal billing. I don't know about you, but I've always loved Ace's style. Peter's not so much. But it's still nice to see the four originals sharing the spotlight.
Paul's disk is pretty good. Although I was suprised that they didn't include Shandi or Psycho Circus. Mr. Speed was an interesting choice and I've never thought it was a very solid song.
Gene's is hit or miss as his songs tend to be. There are the great ones like God of Thunder and Calling Dr. Love, but then Larger than Life is not exactly a keeper.
Ace's has all his good songs and some good ones from his solo album. Some of his songs, particularly in his later days with the band, are pretty cringe-worthy. Just give Talk to Me and Two Sides of the Coin a listen. Wow, those are some seriously bad lyrics. But Shock Me, Dark Light, and New York Groove are all fun songs and fit his style so well.
Peter's is my least favorite but I've never been crazy about his voice or style. there are a few songs I like on there though, like Baby Driver and Hard Luck Woman.
So, overall, nice set. Fun to listen to them back to back on a long drive.
Free Music Review: Good Set !!! Hit: 4 Stars
Okay so we all know that record companies dust off older albums and groups to make a quick buck but I must admit I love this set. When the set first came out I was very uneasy about purchasing it mostly b/c the members have nothing to do w/ the set at all as far as packaging, art work, remastering, etc.... track selection is great and it has a few songs that are not on the orig albums. Favorite albums have to be Peter Criss & Space Ace; Simmons album is okay an the Stanley album is nothing more than a kiss greatest album with two or three Paul stanley indie songs thrown in.
All in All a very well done set and Secondhandtunes did a great job in shipping me my collection; came within a week.
Worth your money if your a true KISS fan !!!
Free Music Review: Is this worth buying? Hit: 4 Stars
I think this is worth buying if you are not a dyhard KISS fan and wont some of of there hits that would not typically be on the other greatest hits but, if you already have this iteam i wouldnt buy it unless it is for a collection. I think that the tracklist for Gene, Ace, and Peter are great but the Paul tracklist needs improvement because its pretty much the same songs that are on the 10 dollar hits at Wallmart. Me personally having all the iteams would not buy this but for a young KISS fan i would defenitely recommend this :) 4 STAR
Free Music Review: Ace and Peter = The original Icons. Hit: 4 Stars
I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers (and with all due respect to Gene and Paul) - It's great to see discs that showcase Ace and Peter. To be honest, it's the Ace songs that were the selling point for me to buy the original KISS recordings in the first place. We all know that this was put out for monetary reasons, but is does make a nice addidtion to any KISS collection. It's just too bad that there aren't enough Eric Carr KISS tracks to make a fifth disc. That would have been extremely cool to see.
Free Music Review: Almost Complete Hit: 4 Stars
This is a very comprehensive package and would be a welcome addition to the casual fan. That said, there are some interesting ommissions, primarily from the Paul Stanley disc. I Want You, Sure Know Something and Shandi, all from the heyday era, are somewhat glaring ommissions. Other than that, a couple of the track orders are kind of odd. Rip It Out and Deuce would have been better suited as disc openers, but hey, that's being nit-pickey! Excellent packaging and a very cool concept.
